I think it was too close, so there is 40 or something that is inverted and has the lever, it’s pretty solid as I have the knob version here, the lever one is what replaced it I think

I’m not sure on the meaning of the prefix.
The three digit number is as follows, the first two numbers are the diameter in millimeters of the top leg section, the third number is the number of leg sections. That’s all I know.

Me neither. It took me a while to figure out what the numbers mean as the above poster said. It seems like the less sections there is the less compact it is when collapsed. So I think it really depends on what you’re going to use it for and if you’re going to pack it around or not. I’ve read mixed reviews on the 32mm legs that makes me believe I’d want to go at least 36mm. Personally I’m looking at the new SA x series, specifically the 364c with the MD-40 head. Normally $629, like $479 with the code. It should be able to accept all standard heads with a 3/8” connection.

I've been using the SA-324C with the MA-40 head since last year and am happy with it. No issues supporting my heavier rifles.

That said, it seems that only the 36mm diameter models are in stock at this time.

One of the nice features of the MA-40 head is that the clamp can be used with both Picatinny and ARCA rails.

I’m determined to be poor here so been holding off on getting a tripod . But I jumped on the deal, I also know nothing about selecting but I picked up an open box tripod, head and the bino mount. I received my Demo (New Model) SA-404CLX+MA-40X a few weeks ago and have played with it around the shop and home with my BTX. This thing is stout! The head is about 70% in the quality dept compared to RRS, But using it side by side with my RRS tripod I can't find any flaws so far.

You can still find the MA-30. But keep in mind that the 40mm and 50mm will support more weight and be more rigid.

I bought the MA-40X ball head on Thursday at noon. It delivered this morning.

About a pound lighter than the 55mm ball head I was using before and it holds just as well. Well worth the money.

I got the SO-362c last year, it’s a beast (very strong ). Couldn’t resist at the price of $320 on eBay even knowing where it’s made.
I paired it with the YB-75LR Leveling base, it has an arca and picatinny combined mount with a lever.
Since I’m in Florida the adjustment range is good enough, may not be enough if you use it in the mountains for some of you.

Is the anvil-30 worth 3x the cost vs the MA-40? I have a sunwayfoto XB-44 I bought on Black Friday a few years ago and it’s junk unless I’m expecting better performance than a tripod can realistically provide

Isn't this the same company everyone was down on for making something a bit too similar to the Anvil design a couple years ago? Looks like it's now only listed on their non-USA site. https://www.leofoto.com/products.php?cateid=176

Overall I find their offerings confusing to pick from, their product descriptions are horrible at best. The have 5+ different types of heads marketed to sport shooting, with no real info what sets apart one over the other. I don't think I've ever seen any real comparison between them from reviews/forums etc. to even try and decide which one is the best option. They are all pretty much 20-25KG load limit, similar clamp options, lever/knob options, even price doesn't help much because they are all within probably $50 of each other in similar load limits aside the STB which is bowl use only.

• There's the Anvil copy we don't see in the USA, perhaps for copyright reasons.
• There's the MAB/MG which seems to be a super tall stack height inverted head. Seems like a tall stack height, inverted or not, could be less stable.
• There's the MAB-x which appears to be new and a taller than anvil but shorter than MAB/MG stack height inverted head. Again perhaps better than the MAB/MG but still pretty tall compared to something like the Anvil.
• There's the MH series that appears similar to the Novoflex heads. I've thought these were intriguing but also seems like they could get a lot of crap in them, and again it's a very tall overall stack height.
• There's the STB that seems to be the opposite of the inverted idea, but recesses the ball into the tripod bowl. This one seems like it at least has the potential to be very solid, just because it drops the ball into the tripod bowl and is very short, however perhaps still not as solid as a leveling head.
• There's the LH traditional ball head which of course most of us are familiar with.

None of their product pages have any info that talks about why you'd pick one over the other for shooting. Seems like that's the first place they'd want to start, is perhaps edit their lineup down a bit and tell people what features set them apart.

The ma30 is available on ebay, i believe they can not sell them any other way because it is to similar to the anvil30, hence the new ma40 design.

I have a ma30l with the qd lever. Does anyone have any experience with both the ma30 and the rrs anvil 30? I picked up a new tripod and was considering trying the anvil over the ma this time around. I also have rlok rails on all of my rifles, so the rrs clamp makes more sense, but it is double the price.
