Rifle Scopes Leopold Mark 4 4.5-14x50 M5 with H27 (110084)

That is with a Horus Vision Reticle pn: (110084). Leopold is one of many who have the Horus vision reticle as an option. Have any of you have any experience using this reticle? I what to get this scope for Gap Crusader that I am going to order. Henry

i have that scope in the ERT version with the TMR reticle and absolutely love it. its solid and very clear. tracts excellent. very crisp clicks

Hi Jig; That is great to hear, but how do you like the Horus vision H27 reticle. I know you mentioned the "very crisp clicks", but with the Horus reticle you don't make the adjustments for windage and elevation. I would to hear more about that.

The Leopold scope I mentioned is the one that has the Horus Vision Reticle which supposed to eliminate the need for elevation and windage corrections. Like Horus says, "it takes the mil dot reticle to college."

I have that eXact scope on my larue OBR and i'm very happy with it. The H27 is very easy to use. On a 100 yd range the reticle looks busy, but once you're out in open country it really starts to shine. It makes second shots a no brainer just watch the impact and shift that to your new POA. It's also really nice when your spotter is running a horus grid as well keeps you both on the same page and makes engagements really fast. Hope this helps.

edit: GAP Crusader is 3700bucks; if you can afford to spend that kind of coin on a rifle why not spend for a higher-end scope from a big name instead of a Leupold?

Why don't you try a Horus Vision HDMR 3.5-21x50 with a H-59 reticle.I'd take it over a Leupold.

Edit;it's a military grade Bushnell basically.

I went to Horus site and checked out scopes. And they will sure save a whole of money. I guess you know what I want to mount it on. a Gap Crusader with a McMillan saddle cheek piece and a Gap precision muzzle brake. I still need to order it.

Why is Falcon TM 5-20x50 so much less, is it of the same quality as HDMR 3.5-21x50? The say it is made for big loads. What is the difference between the two?

It will save me a lot.

I forgot to mention the other Reticle the TReMoR2 with verticle mil reticle. I remember the verticle mils in the military binos, when I with Fire Support Team in the army. It was useful in adjusting fire for me.

Well, the Leupold is 2200 new; Vortex, USO, IOR, Nightforce all offer scopes in that price range which are optically, mechanically and feature-wise better than the Leupold.

As far as reticule functionality goes I think the newest Vortex reticule and the IOR MP8 are probably the closest to the Horus. Schmidt & Bender also offer a reticule like the IOR one and when I was dreaming about buying one the best price I found was I think 2700 for it in a 4-16. So 500 more than the Leupold.

Now if you look around and still want the Horus the best price I know of for one is 1700 on Samplelist.com. It's a used item but SWFA stands behind what they sell (as does Leupold obviously) so a safe choice. If you absolutely want the Horus reticule that is the best route right there as Horus branded scopes aren't that great and Horus warrant/customer service is the worst in the business.

PS-I have an older 4-14 mark 4 leupold scope; it's a great little scope but I just can't wrap my head around spending 2200 for one with different knobs and reticule...

If you're Military or Law Enforcement that Bushnell 3-21 model would be a great choice as they are heavily discounted.

As far as the Horus-branded scopes go I wouldn't get one. 1 year warranty and non-existent customer service are dealbreakers.

Bcp; That is what initially turned me off Horus tscopes, only 1 year warranty and that is really poor. It would be a waste of money. That was reason I chose Leopold, they are guarenteed for life. I will have to check out the Bushnell 3-21 how much they go for. Henry

I'd pick the Leupy over any other Horus vision scope for the reason BCP stated.The HDMR is different because Bushnell will fix it if there are warranty issues.

The Nightforce F1 with H-58 is a extremely good scope.Worth every penny.

I own the F1 and have a HDMR with H-59 on order.

Steve; That is why I wanted with Leopold, but the scope is pretty costly. As for Bushnell do they have the Horus Reticle as an option? I haven't had any luck finding it. I will try again.

I found the Bushnell scope with the Horus H59 reticle and it retails for a $1000 less than Leopold. It isn't even out yet. Henry

I just ordered my GAP Crusader today they said it will take around three months. That will give a little more time to look for a good deal on the scope I want. Do you know where you can get a great deal on a Bushnell scope?

Like I said earlier if you're law enforcement or military then Horus will sell you the bushnell 3-21 at a discounted price. Otherwise I would spend the next three months rat-holing extra money away until you can comfortably spend 2k+ for a scope, rings and base. I mean, you're spending 4k on your rifle...put something nice on top of it...

BTW here is the Razor HD reticule I was talking about:

Bcp; I am just want to get one primo scope for my Crusader, and not have to get stuck with having to upgrade to something better. Why not wait to choose the scope. The only scope I have right now is a Trijicon Acog, which I have on Noveske Light Recce. I am trying to find which one is best, and I use this site to get recommendations.

Bcp; Wow!!! That is of type of reticle I realy like, it isn't as cluttered as the others. I was looking for a scope that had a vertical line with mils, I really like it and thank you for providing me the site. That is the scope I will get. Thanks again for showing that really is better.

How necessary is to have a illuminated reticle? Can you get it without that option? I wish they would use Tritium like Trijicon and there would be no need for batteries

I have a new Vortex Razor for sale.It's got the EBR3 reticle.No you cannot get a Razor without illume.One of the better scopes out there.

Steve; Can you get the subtensions, and do you have to order it that way? It has similar subtensions as EBR-2B, but I still do not know if it is an additional option that you need to order. Why do you want to sell it?

You do understand that tritium decays over time and will no longer do as good a job of lighting your reticle after about 10 years. I have tritium sights on my SIG that are about 10 years old and they are much dimmer than a new set of sights I have on another SIG. It is time to replace them. If you are up to replacing your sights every 10 to 15 years it is not a problem. Tritium has a half life of 12.32 years so every 12 years it is half the brightness. I'll stick to batteries I can change. I got an interesting battery holder from Vortex that attaches to a rail and I have one on each of my rigs.

Won it in a match and don't need it.

It's got .1 mil subtentions off of the main crosshair for mil ranging.The main has .5 mil amd full mill lines.They are numbered every 2 mils which is a nice feature for holdovers.

Guys please educate me on the reticle subtensions. Is it a function that is always there, or do you have to order as an additonal function? Or do have a switch or knob to turn, cause I really don't know.

It's easier to do a google search on the use and function of FFP scopes than us trying to explain it.Not that it's hard to explain but time consuming.There is the FAQ's here in the optics forum you can read as well.

I find mil turrets and mil reticle in a FFP scope the easiest way to go.Mils are in 10th's vs 1/8,1/4,1/2 MOA.You can buy ballistic program apps for cells or get one for the computer.

Steve; I was FIST in the Army so I am really familiar with the mil reticle. So I know the relation to one mil at 1000 meters, is one mil. Having dealt with all the fire support assets and getting them on target.

What I am not sure about "Subtension Detail", are they a separate function of the scope that has to be activated. ie...twist a knob etc... Or is it an additional option that you have to add? Because when you go the site and you want the subtensions, you have to click on it. How do you see it on the scope?

The Razors "only" option is what reticle you want.At the Vortex site click on Razor.You have a choice of 3 MRAD based reticles or one MOA reticle with MOA turret.All Razors with MRAD reticles come with MRAD turrets,5 mils per turn,zero stop,illumination and the best warranty in the business.

Subtension simply refers to the sub division hash locations of 1 full milrad, subtensions are .5 mrad on the major axis and .2 mrad for windage on the horus tree.

i'd go with the leupold with the H27 reticle unless you want to spend top dollar on a hensodlt or like caliber scope. i have both the Mark 4 4.5-14x50 M5 with H27 & the same scope/reticle in 6.5 x 20. i think the glass is on par with nightforce scopes i have had. i concur with the positive reviews above as to tracking and click feel. when i spoke to the leupold tactical rep he indicated leupold made some changes to the horus h27, i prefer the leupold h27 version myself [more windage holdover i think]. once in a while you can pick these up for about $1,750, far less than the usual $2,200-$2,300 asking price [check cal's sporting armory or swfa sample list-i recently got lucky with both]. you could go with a nightfrce with the h58 horuis reticle but personally that reticle is way too busy for me, i find the h27 just right. while no zero stop, i find i can live without it myself. good luck and good choice of rifle, i am a ga precision fan myself.

I finally get it! The subtension reticle are just marks on an axis. The view that you were seeing was a magnified view through the scope. Thanks for putting up with me. Henry

I almost bought this very scope recently but opted to stick with the older model 6.5-20x50 M1 TMR. This makes me re-think my decision, just a little bit............

Like mentioned someplace above, if you qualify in any way for a discount with Leupold you'd be very suprised with pricing. I bought mine plus the rings through Promotive and couldn't be happier.

Sr15match; My decision is made, I will get the Vortex Razor HD EBR-2B. It does cost some coin, I think it is the best.

I don't quailfy for any discount, but I will try to use my retired Army status.
