Anybody know the distance from the crosshairs to the heavy vertical line at 100 yds? I am looking at the Leupold VXR 2-7 with the German #4 reticle for a light weight hunting rifle and trying to find out if it is usable for a hold over. Maybe I missed it but I searched and checked on Leupold site but no useful information.

Thanks
Greg

Its on page 97 in the Leupold catalog, http://www.leupold.com/wp-content/u...eupold-sport-optics-catalog-screen.pdf?2e9717

for the 2-7 with German 4 the thin opening at x2 is 86.5" and at x7 its 33.2, so from the center of the crosshair to the thick post it will be half that amount. So somewhere around 40 moa at x2 and 16 moa at x7. You can do the math for exact amounts. 1 moa = 1.047" @100Y

I have this scope and its pretty nice. The click/turret is cm/100m. So the values move the same as the mil turrets of the VXr patrol.

I sent my scope to Leupold and had them install the CDS turret from the VXr patrol and all is nice

They sent me a 223 turret cap and one generic mrad cap. I just printed out a new label and taped it on.

As for using the reticle for holdovers, it is rather large (to large) an opening. The scope is great for point and shoot thicket hunting.

Thanks roggom good info. I will look at the numbers a quick glance the hold over will be 625 ish yards for the 7mm08 I plan to put it on. I was hoping closer to 400 with 100 yard zero.

I have had Leupold turn around in 10 days, this one took a few weeks because the "tech expert" was confused by the metric scope. Usually, the CDS upgrade is 1/4 moa clicks, but the German #4 scope/reticle is metric. So in this case get the VXR patrol Mrad turret installed.

The guys in the pro-shop knew the deal, so once I talked to them on the phone, my order was expedited.

It only cost me $95 and I got one free generic turret cap, they threw in the 223 cap because it was late. Extra caps are $60 or $65, those you can have laser cut with specific drop data.
