I figured I would get some opinions from some of yall. I have a Savage F-Class rifle that I had rebarreled to a 300 Win Mag 8 twist (yes a short action with a long action caliber, great thing about a single shot action). I have it outfitted with a Leupold VX-III 6.5-20x50 30mm tube. I have shot it at 600 yards with great results but want to stretch it out to 1000 yds. Would it be better if I got a 8.5-25 or even a higher power scope? Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks, Peter.

Re: Leupold 6.5-20x50 for long range shooting?

User preferance is the main answer for this question. I like to use the 6.5-20 leupy or 5.5-22 in NF's. Some people use more or less power. When mirage is bad it is hard to get past 15-18 power sometimes.

Shoot it and see what you like.

I haven't shot 1K but a couple times and found that the 20-22 power range is more than enough. I usually dial down slightly (15X or so )to help with mirage and can still quarter a 2 MOA target @ 1K. It like MBrown said it really comes down to personal preference and shooting conditions . But thats just my 2 cents worth.
