I have the opportunity to buy a Leupold Mark 4 6.5-20x 50mm ER/T FFP scope with M5 turrents and a TMR reticle for just over $1,100. Are these still good scopes or could I do better in this price range?
If you like the scope/reticle, go for it. At that price point, though, you're creeping up on a used Athlon Cronus (or even new at Cabela's if they have 'em in stock), which is a LOT more scope, IMO.
IMHO for that money you are in a used gen 1 razor territory, its a better scope then the MK IV. If you can find an older MK IV, 2000 vintage and older then go for it. For some reason the newer ones do not seem to be of the same quality when it comes to tracking. I had a 2003ish M3 that was dead nuts when it came to tracking. 4 years later my department bought 4 4-14×50 M1s and 2 other buddies bought the same around that time. 4 have been back for tracking issues and at least 2 twice. We use our dials because we shoot at 1k for shits and grins quite a bit. iI think the MK IVs are a$700-$800 scope at best. They have good usable glass and have updated many reticles but it still needs a zero stop and better internals. Just my two...
I hate the Mark 4 line and wouldn’t own one if it was a gift. But that’s just me....much MUCH better options for the money. In addition, 6.5-20 is an awful range and whoever thought it was a good idea needs a good old fashioned dick kicking.

I’m looking for a 4.5-14 version for a Law Enforcement restoration rifle (it would be correct for this rifle and contract). This is my personal rifle and I know I could do better optic wise for the money but, this gun should have this scope.
