I currently own a Vortex Razor LHT 4.5-22x50 and am considering moving to a Leupold Mark 4.

I hunt big game and we take game as far out as 800 yards. I also hunt pigs, would like to shoot out to 1k yards consistently, and thinking about doing some “for fun” NRL Hunter.

I know there are other brands out there but using military discounts to keep the cost down while in school full time.

I’m considering selling for the Mark 4.5-18 or 6-24. Looking for opinions. The Vortex has been a good scope, just thinking about trying something new.

Also anyone have any input on the Leupold Reticle’s?

I own both. Glass is slightly better in the vortex 4-22 but litteraly everything else is better in the MK4HD. Pr3 is a killer reticle as well. Turrets on the vortex are some of the worst out there. That thing lives on a muzzleloader that gets shot like 2 times a year.

I use the 4.5-22 on my NRL Hunter rifle that I also hunt with. I like it a lot. The turrets certainly aren’t the best feeling, but they track true. If you’re shooting past 800 a lot, the 6 mil turrets will get annoying. The reticle on the leupold is quite difficult to see at the bottom of the magnification range, but that doesn’t matter if you’re wanting to shoot longer distance frequently. Other drawback is the 5-6oz weight gain over the Vortex. The vortex is certainly more geared towards the hunting market and the Mk4 is definitely more of a shooting optic. Pick whichever fits your usage best.

That’s the one thing that makes me want to move away from the LHT is the Turrets. Otherwise I think it would be perfect at the price point.

I own a mk4 8-32 and a MK5 5-25.

The glass to my eye is equal between the two. Bright, clear, color is very accurate.

The mk4 turrets, at least on mine, are literally hot trash. The mk5’s are fantastic, the mk4’s feel like I’m using a plastic spork in mashed potatoes to adjust your scope.

I’d pick a Cronus BTR, Brownells MPO, Hell vortex PST G2 over the mk4 for turret feel. I bought mine after I bought the MK5 because of so many reviews I read and watched that said so many great things…… I’m contemplating sending it back.

I have not yet had a Mark 4 in hand, but like you all the early reports have seemed to indicate the turrets on the Mark 4 or just as good with some claiming "better". That said, I know the Mark 5 turrets have even had some variance in feel, so it might be worth sending back to Leupold and letting them know about the spork ;)

I do find it interesting that some claim the Mark 4 turret is great and some say it’s terrible.

It feels like since 2020 QC from just about everyone has floundered. It's getting to the point where I feel almost any new scope (even some expensive ones) will likely have something that slipped through the cracks making warranty and "quick turn around" beneficial, at least more so than it used to be.

Sounds a lot like the early Razor GenIII 6-36's and their turrets. I know I had to send one back, was corrected and returned very quickly. The next one I ordered was good when I received it.

I have a LHT 4.5-22x50 MRAD and absolutely love it. I live in Wyoming and have shot several large game animals with it on my 6.5 PRC. It was on the 280 Ackley before that.

I’m surprised to see people complaining about the turrets. I’m not really sure what that’s about. I have no problem with the turrets.

My best friend has the same scope, but in MOA and he feels the same way.

DEI.

I pulled the trigger on the 6-24 in PR3. Was able to get over to the Leupold booth at Sheep show. It felt better than the Vortex did, I like the idea of getting rid of the tree since I have RFB, and having a turret turn indicator. If the glass is even close I’ll be happy. I wish they had the PR3 in the 4.5-18

I don't own both (have Mk5s) but the LHT turrets are consistently wildly disappointing and it hasn't changed. A buddy of mine just got one and they're a mushy non-resistant mess. It's so strange how the Viper HD a product the 3rd of the cost of the LHT has a far superior locking elevation turret.

I will say the LHT glass is pretty impeccable. It has made me question my AMG's existence on more than one occasion.

And now a new scope is coming out next week….UGHHHHH

From vortex or leupold?
