i just received a Leupold Mark 5hd 5-25x56 Illuminated Pr-1 moa reticle. I havent mounted it on a rifle and am not sure if I want to keep or return. Initial observations....

1. Turrets are awesome. Distinct clicks and lock in place. Best turret I have ever used. Just the turret has me re-evaluating other scopes I own.

2. IQ is very good. Not the best I have ever seen, but damn good.

3. Reticle is visible at 5x without illumination. Thats a big plus for me since its for hunting.

4. Illumination is daylight visible and adjusts low enough where it is usable at dusk. Another big plus. But the reticle is so damn big, not sure I would use the illumination.

5. Last part - the sticking point. Initial thought when I increased magnification was that the reticle was so thick it looked like a caterpillar. The main line and center dot subtends to .3 moa. i quickly decided to return it, but its the weekend, so I havent shipped it back yet. I took it outside again over the last few days and looked at some mailboxes at 485 yards since thats roughly the size of vitals on a whitetail deer. I found the center dot didnt look as bad as I originally thought. If i did the math correctly, .3 moa center dot will cover 1.8” at 600 yards and 2.1 inches at 700 yards. Thats about the max I would ever shoot. I love the scope other than reticle size, but its kind of growing on me.

anyone have experience shooting/hunting the illuminated PR-1 moa reticle? i would appreciate feedback.

thanks!

Since nobody responded I have to ask what you did with the scope?
