Looking for a scope. Will be used on my sons AR (LWRC M6A3-DMR).

We shoot tacticle rife out to 500 yds.

I am considering the Mark AR 4-12x40. Any comments reguarding this scope would be great.

Re: Leupold Mark AR

Have the same rifle, and a Mark 4 ar 4-12x40 works great also have a Mark ar 1.5-4 on a Stag model 2 and have no complains.

Re: Leupold Mark AR

I had a Mark AR 3-9x40 on top of my AR15 and for the price, the glass was definitely hard to beat. I sold it because I didn't like the turrets being 1/2 moa rather than 1/4, the turrets weren't exposed, the "calibrated" drop numbers on the turret were waaaaay off for my 16" AR, and it had a duplex reticle (I like fancy reticles). The "BDC" knob still had standard markings, it's just that I can't imagine a 16" AR15 pushing 55gr ammo at 3100fps. That being said, it did serve me well for a year and a half before I sold it for....

A PST 2.5-10x44 which I currently have on top of my AR. The PST glass is very similar to the Mark AR. I got it primarily for the reticle, warranty (Vortex treated me right when I had an issue with another scope), increased travel (86 MOA vs 56 MOA), and illumination. To my eye it seems that I am having issues with the parallax at my 100yd range, but I have shot better groups with this scope than the Leupold.

All in all the Leupold Mark AR was a very nice scope especially for the price and I was pleased with it. However the lack of reticle diversity, illumination, and limited travel (the 4-12 has 55 MOA) ultimately had me looking elsewhere.

Re: Leupold Mark AR

Got a MRK-AR with a hold over reticle that I had Leupold install. It has it's limitation though. Covered turrents, no side paralax adj., and no illumination, but for the money, a good scope.

Re: Leupold Mark AR

I have the Mark II 4-12x40 (which is now the Mark AR looking at the Mark AR compared to my Mark II it looks like all that changed was the name on the side) Its mounted on my .308 bolt gun and I have loved it thus far. I do intend to swap it out eventually with a FFP Mil/Mil scope but for now it has served me quite well and has been an accurate scope. I dont think you would have any issues putting it on your sons rifle as long as you stick within its limitations and are aware of the SFP. Another great option to look at would be a Vortex Viper PST which you can get FFP 4-16 for around 900. The turrets on the PSTs are a lot nicer then those on the Mark AR. You could also look at SWFAs SS line. I cant complain about the Mark AR it has been a good scope but I am now looking to upgrade so maybe save yourself the money of buying twice if your son is definitely serious about shooting tactical style competition the FFP reticle can make holds a lot more foolproof when doing drills where you are engaging multiple ranges using holds or movers. Sorry a little long winded and rambling but I hope it helps.

Anyone using the newer mark AR 1.5-4 w/ firedot?

I am looking at this for a carbine 308 (range will be 400 meters maximum).

I already have the 1" mounts.

The Nightforce I got in May broke the bank for a while. The MArk AR will get the carbine scoped and ready to play with again.

Yeah I do. Have it on a RECCE .223 build. Green firedot is really bright and has a nice shut-off/turn on feature. Knob click is very positive and glass is clear. Best feature is it's ultralight. I was shooting steel out to 450 yds with it and will buy another one. Mine's in an ADM recon mount and works nicely. Good buy in my opinion.

I have a Mark AR Mod 1 4-12 on my CZ517 in 223AI. I really like this scope. My only gripe was the stupid BDC turret, but for less than twenty bucks, I had a straight MIL marked turret.

I wouldn't give a nickel for the old Mark AR.

+1 on the new Mark AR's vs the old ones.

I have a 4-12 and the 6-18. Great glass for the money. BDC turett is too limiting, but it is marked in Mils as well.

One is on a 20" heavy barrel AR, so maybe I can use the BDC for that one. I haven't had a chance to chrono my new load yet.

I'll have to call Leupold for the Mil only turrets.

I have the 3-9 firedot TMR/MIL BDC turrets mounted on a AR with a Burris PERP mount.
Works well but elevation tops out at about 550 yds.
I had to return the first one to Leupold because of fuzzy/smudged reticle.
They returned it quickly and it's nice and crisp now.

Anyone else have issues with lack of elevation?
