Has anyone used a Leupold M3 3.5-10 scope on a .22. I just came across a nice 504T that I am building to be a trainer for my 700 and would like to use one of these scopes to shoot out to 300 yds. It would seem that the 10 power would be fine for the distance, and the coarse adjustments would make quick work of all the dialing one would have to do. Just wondering it these would work or if I should look for something else. I wouldn't shoot any benchrest matches with it just clay pigeons at 200 or so. Thoughts?

It had crossed my mind to do the same thing. You could easily get to 200-250 in less than a full revolution vs. the almost 2-3 that I have to do now. I can't afford another Mk4 to replace the one I have now, and I won't put anything but the best on my .308, so until I have disposable income to blow, it won't be happening for me.

I don't think you will like the adjustments.

I'm shooting a fixed Lupy M4 LRT 10x w/M1(.25 MOA adj) on my 40x trainer-- 10x is sufficient to make out the bullet holes to 150 against a high vis target. However, I think you are really going to want the finer adjustments with the .22lr.

Id have to agree here. There are times even with an m24 that you wished you had .5 moa adjustments on the verticle axis.

Im thinking of going over to a .1 mil scope for all my rifles. Seems to make more sense.

Re: Leupold Mk 4 M3?

I thought of going with M2's. I have a 3.5-10x-40 MK 4 on a Volquartsen barreled 10/22 (Kidd trigger, bolt work, etc) and a 4.5-14x-40mm MK 4 on a Sako FinnFire. Both have the 1/4moa adjustments and I am GTG with that. BUT....the 1/2" was very tempting. The M3's, just too much.

Re: Leupold Mk 4 M3?

The other thing to remember is you only get one revolution of elevation with the M3 scopes. So it's been awhile since I looked at the drop with a 50yd zero on 22 match ammo out to 300 but I'd be willing to bet it's more than the amount of adjustment you are going to get out of the M3 scopes.

Re: Leupold Mk 4 M3?

One post here mentions 51.75 iphy to 300 with wolf ME. The elevation dial reads to 60 MOA (one turn) but I don't think that you can go that far because some angle is taken up by the zero stop. I think around 50 MOA is the usuable. So it should have enough travel to go to 300. Do need a tapered base. Did try it this afternoon and got a really good zero at 50 and seemed to work good at 100 and 200. It was pretty windy so I was hard to tell at the longer distances. There seemed to be a greater error with the CCI standards that I was using than anything else. I do agree that 1/2 MOA adjustments would be about perfect. It is nice being able to go to 300 and back with one dial turn.
