Hey guys,
Im wanting to know which scope would be best for medium-long range hunting on top of a .308. Im looking at either the leupold vx-III 4.5-14x50 or zeiss conquest 3-9x40.
Anyone running either of these? I want clear glass mainly.
Thanks M24sniper473

Re: Leupold or zeiss?

I use that same Zeiss on my tikka 270. The glass is crystal clear ans it tracks perfect. Also very lightweight. I can't speak for that particular leupold but I am well pleased with the zeiss

Re: Leupold or zeiss?

might want to check out the new VX-6 line
the 2-12 is a great scope and glass is perhaps a tad better than the Conquest.
It's NOT as nice a a Diavari FL, I hunted with at 4-16x50 last year on my 280AI and plan to run the 2-12 VX-6
I got a chance to test both back to back at low light into darkness. The Zeiss FL was better, but in all honesty, only marginally so. I don't feel I will be limitted by the VX-6.
They have stepped up their game and the glass is better than the Mark 4 line. (and I have tested back to back)

LIFETIME WARRANTY = Leupold

you are hunting. Leupold's glass is perfectly fine. The only people complaining about the Leupold glass are people looking for heat mirage to determine wind at the target downrange for adjustments. I doubt that's going to be an issue

Re: Leupold or zeiss?

My only limitation is price. I know your scope should be pretty close to the price of the gun but i dont have another grand to drop in a scope. I need somethin below $700.

Re: Leupold or zeiss?

My first gun I paid for myself was a tikka 308 with a zeiss conquest 3-9 on top, and that scope still works fine after years of hunting trips. Nothing too extreme but it has had its fair share of knocks and drops over the years and is still 100% functioning. Glass is also very good.
