Rifle Scopes Leupold Prismatic 1x14mm Tactical Illum. Reticle

Re: Leupold Prismatic 1x14mm Tactical Illum. Reticle

Well, those are 500$, for 300-350 you could get a used aimpoint, or for 6-800 a used ACOG. Both of those are better choices. If you're just a casual plinker the vortex sparc and aimpoint clones are both excellent for the price.

edit: mounted on carbine AR?

If you want to blow 500$ for shits and giggles go to a casino and try to double it.

The economy sucks right now, why waste money?

Save up and get an ACOG or a good 1-4X scope. If it's a 16" or 18" and you already have a carbine with an aimpoint maybe consider an SPR type scope? Something like the SS 3-9? That's what will be on top of my SPR once I get more $$$$.

Re: Leupold Prismatic 1x14mm Tactical Illum. Reticle

Looked at one the other day. Didn't realize the illumination was provided via a seperate, external "ring" that mounts around the optic just like a scope ring. It aligns and plugs into a fiber optic port to light the reticle, didn't really get a warm feeling about that whole deal. Also didn't like the idea of using the iron sights with the always visible black reticle, might be a busy sight pic.

The way the ILLUM is setup on the prismatic has caused problems for some people to include the ring coming loose, the LED "flickering" etc. You would think for $500 all that stuff would be encased, like an Eotech, Acog etc.

Choose wisely!

The Prismatic is literally a 1x scope. It's not a red dot sight, reflex sight, or anything like that. Like a scope, it has eye relief, an eye box, and you must be properly aligned with it to use it. I played around with one for all of about 30 seconds at the gun shop, and I was seriously disappointed in it. It's like Leupold searches for ways to further disappoint me when I want to really like them. What's more was that it was very dark, which will really suck for indoors/low light operations. The Leupold DeltaPoint is a much better purchase. That said, so is the Trijicon RMR, Reflex, Tri-Power, Aimpoints, EOTechs, etc.
