Rifle Scopes Leupold VX3 3.5X10 Police

Re: Leupold VX3 3.5X10 Police

If you know the dimensions of the reticle maybe... It is not really made for that sort of thing. MRAD or MilDot is what you want. Vortex has some really nice glass with the EBR-1 reticle.

A duplex reticle works best in conjunction with a laser rangefinder.

I think the FBI Sniper Data Book has a page dedicated to ranging with this scope. If I recall correctly, it is only a rough estimate and you should develop your own range card.

Re: Leupold VX3 3.5X10 Police

I just picked up a 4.5x14-50 Mark IV with a Duplex and plan to use it with a range finder for hunting. I did call Leupold and they gave me the dimension from the upper tip of the thick reticle to the lower tip of the thick reticle. I believe the dimension was like 5" at 100 yards on 14X?? But I really can't remember.

You can have the reticle changed to a Mil-Dot or TMR for $160 at Leupold but I think that $160 can better be spend on a laser range finder and ammo???......

I think you are right, and possibly a new scope as well

Re: Leupold VX3 3.5X10 Police

There is aboslutely nothing wrong with that scope.
I do not have the subtensions or the formula, but you CAN range with that reticle.

Yes, a rangefinder is nice, but if they can install a TMR reticle, I think it would be a worthy investment.

I vote for a reticle change or learn the formula for ranging with the one you have.

Re: Leupold VX3 3.5X10 Police

I have the same scope from the TWS package. There are the numbers 2 through 6 printed on the rearward portion of your magnification band. Look through the scope and adjust your magnification until a 16 inch target fills the thinner center part of your crosshairs. When it does, the little dot just behind those numbers will tell you (in 100 yd increments) your approximate yardage. Pretty primitive, but better than nothing.
