I have a VX3i 30mm 4.5-14x50 on my Savage .270. I chose this optic due to the light weight and adjustment range/features. I was trying to keep the weight of the system down. However, I have an issue with the eye relief. In order to get a full sight picture while maintaining proper cheek weld, I need to move the scope back a little less than an inch. This presents a problem, because the objective bell sits below my (0 moa) picatinny rail, which I actually shortened a bit in the front to get the scope lower. So, I have a few ideas, and I’m hoping to get a few opinions:
1) use higher rings - I don’t love this idea, because I don’t want the scope height to be too high off the muzzle.
2) swap to Talley rings, but I don’t think this will give me enough movement backwards.
3) shorten LOP on my stock - I wear at least four layers during rifle season, so I’m essentially adding another inch of so of space between my shoulder and the scope. The stock is a B&C Sporter.
4) Replace my optic - I have a Bushnell LRHS 3-12 I could put on, but I do t want to make it heavier. I also love the Leupold, but I could put it on my Swede...
I’ve attached some photos of my rifle for reference. Please let me know what you think.
