Rifle Scopes Leupold Zero Point Boresighter = Frustrating

Has anyone ever used one of these?

I just bought this thing to sight my Vortex scope, and I'm having a wee bit of problem. Then again, it could just be me, too.

Take a look at the picture. I followed the directions to a "T" and got the Zero Point centered in the scope. However, when looking through the scope at the grid to align the crosshairs, it's saying I have to move the windage 110 clicks. When I do that, you can plainly see the crosshairs are "off." Below is the picture after I've moved the crosshairs in-line with the grid. As you can see, it's not right.

Any ideas? Anyone ever used one? I though maybe my scope might be off or something, but I checked the level on the top and the side and it's definitely straight.

Is that a Springfield receiver on the M1A? I've heard it's very hard to zero with bolt-on mounts due to the non-milspec tolerances of those receivers.

Take it to the range and throw up a target at 25 yards and adjust the scope out to 100 from there, if the receiver will allow it.

You'd be better off with one of those little laser cartridges for that. A long time ago I actually gave one of those zero points away because it doesn't work worth a shit.

I use my Leupold zero point every time I set up a scope. Works great. 3-4 rounds and spot on.

Used it on Tikka T3, CZ 452, and Rem 700s.

Center your windage (turn as far as it can go right, count clicks as you turn all the way to left, come back 1/2 of total counts back to right).

Then check your alignment with the Leupy tool. If it is is that far off you might want to check your mount and ring alignment.

It's mounted on the Vltor rail that came with the rifle.

Took it to the range today and verified that yeah, something's wrong. I had to turn the windage all the way to the right to get it centered on the target at 50 yards. I literally ran out of adjustments.

Try changing the rings around before you try anything else.

Quite possible that the rail isn't aligned. If your sights are zeroed, run a string from front to rear and look at the alignment.

What are the specs and history on the rifle?

If its your mount pawn it off then get a SADLAK and never look back.

Also where it attaches to the stripper clip guide looks off center unless it's just smaller than the groove. There should be some kind of pin or set screw that holds it firmly in the center.

It is most likely the flash suppressor. The Leupold device aligns off the muzzle. If it is even a few thousandths off your reading on the scale will be way off.

I love the Leupold bore sighter but absolutely not for initial sight in. It is repeatable for re-mounting and switching scopes after you zero the rifle and take a reading off the bore sighter. Do not depend on it for initial sight in especially if you have a muzzle device.

The flash suppressor shouldn't cause him to run out of windage when trying to zero at 50 yards. The scope is pointed where the mount and receiver want it to point suggesting the scope is positioned to the left of the bore.

My understanding is that he has not actually fired the rifle yet to zero. He is only going by the reading on the bore sighter. The reading will be off to one side because of the muzzle device. Gun may zero just fine and in the center of the windage adjustment.

The flash surpresser is more then likely one of the issues. Remove it and mount it directly to the barrel.

Just boresight it without a laser. Sure technology to possibly make things quicker is cool, but just use conventional techniques. Start out close at 25 to get it on paper know the proper elevation differences (something like 1.5" high) then start dialing in your scope. Just shoot, simpler is better.
