I haven't read anywhere on here about using an app on an iphone to level a rifle scope. I figured this out on my own and thought I would pass it on. I am sure I didn't reinvent the wheel but I think it's a solid technique.
The app I used is the AE Ballistics app.
How I leveled scope:
Step 1: I took my iphone 4 out of the case and cleaned of the back of the phone. I opened the AE app and tapped the TRAJECTORY tab. Then placed iphone center on the action rail under the scope.
Step2: I adjusted the rifle in the vice until the LOS angle was as close to 0.0* as possible. I was able to get my rifle to .01-.02*. Then I lock everything in place.
Step3: Place the iphone on the top turret or a flat part of scope. (I have a SWFA SS so the turrets are wide and flat). After loosening up the screws on the rings I adjust scope by turning until the LOS angle reads as close to 0.0* as possible.
OFFSET: If you were only able to get your rifle to level within 0.01-0.02* like I was, I just offset my scope to read on the LOS angle (negative) -0.01*. That should now make the scope level to the 0.0-0.01*.
Any one see anything missing in this technique? My scope is now more level than I could ever get it with a bubble and only took me less than 15 minutes start to finish.
Like I said, I am sure I didn't think of this first but thought I would share. Thanks!
