Re: Life ?

Grandfather as well.
Nothing he ever did was half ass. One of his favorite sayings was "First you have to be smarter than want your working on, no matter want it is. Another was, When gaming don't toss out the winning move until its absolutely required. Father, showed me how to build, repair, think out of the box, but Grand Dad showed me the ways of the world, woods, and how do a 2-3 man job by myself if need be.

I was kinda on my own growing up and I honestly cannot think of anybody, save one college law professor, that really lit my path. I stay in contact with her to this day and she's endlessly motivational.

Re: Life ?

Many.....

Dad - hard work, no real education, but made a Master Chief. Taught me how to keep sucking it up.

Every coach I ever had - Coach Collins - how to never, ever quit, thanks.

JE Guillory - you short fat lil Cajun, I miss you every day and the joy you showed us in your short time here. I know the the lights are on in heaven, and you still got that crescent wrench in your back pocket.

To good friends, and absent comrades....

Re: Life ?

My Granddad .

He really took time to teach us kid's what life is all about , and still dose .

I talk to him at least once a week even if it is just a quick hollo , I live 1330 mile's
from him , I wish I was closer I use to go fish and rabbit shooting with him all the time , it isn't even about fishing or shooting he took the time to teach me so much .

I hope I can do the same for someone someday .

Re: Life ?

Grandfather - Taught me to be a good man in life and the value of honor and integrity.

Father - Taught me to make do with what I have and still be happy in life.

Step Father - Taught me patience and work ethic.

My recruiter - Kept me on the right path when I was young and again when I was a GySgt and he was my MGySgt on recruiting duty.

First Squad Leader - Taught me how to lead the right way.

First Platoon Commander - Taught me the warrior way.

I can't mention the above from my younger years without mentioning those who later in life guided and formed me into who I am today:

My good friend and sniper partner Shane Schmidt (Rest in Peace) - Drove me to be a better sniper as much as I drove him to be the same. You are missed but not forgotten.

Last but most definitely not least, my wife - Taught me to love and showed me what is really most important in life.

Re: Life ?

Event :

1) the day my dad was murdered.
2) When I married my wife. she saved me from a very different path. I dont deserve her.

3) The day my kids were born.

Everyday event ::: laughing with my kids

Re: Life ?

"Jim", who took pity on a enthusiastic 13 year old flailer and taught me the ways of trout and how to catch them. Made me some kind of trout whisperer, like him.
The pleasure and comfort I get catching trout as consistently as I do is something I will be forever grateful for.

Re: Life ?

you would think that is an easy question but it really isn't if you stop and think about it. I would say that the biggest affect on my life has been the Army as I was a drifting 18 year old with not much guidance and for the next 25 years it was the path that drove me to where I am today. Next, the Lord Jesus Christ, as I came to him much later in life. And, third, my wife, if not for her who knows what I would have become. She held on during the 25 years of the military when I wasn't so nice a person. She stayed for many, many deployments when I was out to seek my adventure in foreign lands. Most women would never have stayed for all the places I went to.
