I've got a round count of just over 900 rounds through my chrome lined MWS made up of 20 different loads and have come to several conclusions, (Your mileage may vary). On average this rifle is pretty accurate and very reliable. On ammunition it likes it is outstanding. Of the eight handloads I've tried the average is is 1.12 inches at 100 yards for the average of three five round groups. Of the eight factory loads I've tried that use match bullets the average is 1.2 inches for the same distance and group averages. Of the four military surplus loads the average using the same criteria is 1.96 inches. I have not had good luck with lighter bullets but I have yet to try match type bullets in the 150 grain range. The 175 grain have performed best with the 168 grain following closely. The most accurate factory load was the M118LR at .82" and the most accurate handload is a M118LR duplicate consisting of LC brass, Fed 210 match primers, 175 grain SMK and 43.1 grain of RL15. OAL is 2.81 inches. The average includes one uncalled flyer that felt good when I sent it but was most likely my fault. Without the flyer the average would have been very close to 1/2 MOA, please see the photos. The paper target is 100 yards, the white steel 300 yards and the yellow steel is 500 yards. The 500 yard five shot group measures about 3.75 inches.

This photo is the same load as above except it uses pull down M118LR bullets. The bullets are scratched which is too bad as I own 1500 of them.

Other ammo was on average OK but not great. Oddly the 168 grain PPU (Prvi Partizam) ammo averaged 2.04" while older ammo in the old style packaging averaged .89".

Re: LMT MWS Field Report

I got mine to shoot some 155smk's, 42.3 xbr with LC brass and cci-br primers very well. Shot a 1.1 at 200 with a 3.5x acog.

For me the up/down is usually me or velocity spread and L/R is usually wind.

Thanks for the post........

Re: LMT MWS Field Report

Problemchild I'd like to try that load. What OAL are you using? The xbr is a new one for me but I have the components. I'll pick up some xbr and try some Vihta Vuori as well.

MidwestPX I have some 155 Amax so I'll give them a try as well.
BTW Ty thanks for the fast service on the A2 stock. I like it much better than the SOPMOD. I would like to try a stronger spring. Any ideas?

Re: LMT MWS Field Report

Very nice write up.

Have you tried any 175gr privi?

From what I've found with mine, most loads will shoot "pretty good", but then there are a couple loads that shoot much better than the others.

I have yet to find a box in my area. I did try a handload with their 175 grain match bullet and it was so scattered on the first five rounds I did not finish the target. This is an interesting round. Rather than being an OTM it is a full metal Jacket. The factory ammo seems to work well in some rifles. I will try a box, when I find one, just out of curiosity.

OAL was near 2.8 or 2.803 depending on the miplat. They were palma 155's #2156.

I should have mentioned that the 300 yard target is a spring loaded bounce back type and was fired rapidly. I can't help trying to make the thing dance.

Have you tried any brass other than LC? Im using Winchester right now and curious if have any luck with it. Its funny because with Winchester brass my load is 43.2 of RL15 using the 175 SMK.

Re: LMT MWS Field Report

Steve

I have used new Winchester brass with some Varget loads and had no problems. The RL15 loads were more accurate. The 43.1 g of RL 15 is said to be what M118LR uses. The RL15 used in the ML118LR is a little different in color because of a flash inhibitor, or so I'm told. I pulled the bullet for three rounds of M118LR and found them to be 43.1 grains. I tend to use military brass in autoloades and commercial brass in my bolt guns. I happen to have a thousand fully processed, (trimmed, resized and crimp removed)pieces of 7.62 brass from Top Brass when I got the LMT. I sorted all the LC brass out, and ignoring date stamp sorted it by weight. I then debur the neck inside and out and uniform the flash holes.
