LMT MWS Sharpshooter Rifle Weapon System

The new LMT catalog includes the Sharpshooter Rifle Weapon system. Its a US commercial sales replica of the UK L129A1 that comes in a pelican case, includes 8 mags a Harris Bipod, factory torque wrench and some cleaning gear. I've heard MSRP is in the $4900-$5K range.

I really like the rifle as configured (folding sights, looks like surefire flash suppressor and FDE furniture). 8 mags would be great to have on hand. I'm indifferent about the Pelican case and the cleaning gear. The only option I would want in addition to what it comes with is the standard MWS L8A and L8FS sights as I intend to use iron sights for known distance match shooting and want to have elevation change a function of the rear sights. In the end I want two sets of sights - the folders for BUIS when I use an optic and the full size for when I want target irons.

I'm figuring its probably a $2700 rifle. $2300 sounds like a lot of money for a plastic box, 8 plastic mags, a bipod, a Dewey chamber rod and an otis cleaning kit.

Anyone have any experiencewith ordering custom from LMT. Would they entertain selling me a rifle configured as an L129A1 and let me buy my own mags and a soft mat/case combo?

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Why not just buy an MWS and configure it the way you want? You can certainly get the Tan furniture and brake, I dont know about the BUIS, but the knights 600m rear certainly is a sweet option.

I guess it wont have "sharpshooter" engraved on the side.

But if its a replica anyway, who cares?

Seems like a collector thing.

A factory MWS is ~2500 which leaves a bunch more left over of that 4-5k for all the accouterment of your choosing.

Just heard back from LMT. Getting a rifle configured as in the SharpShooter Kit without all the extras will result in failure if that is your option.

Understandable as far as business decisions go. I imagine they have a limited number of parts on hand to configure those kits and they cant start cannabalizing to build specials for each noob that comes along.

Their standard line has enough options to suit my needs and I'm not going to overspend buying a big box and cleaning gear to get tan furniture and a muzzle treatment.

I just asked them to configure a standard MWS with 16" stainless barrel and FDE plastic for me. It will come with the standard accessories. I also had them include 6 extra mags. How have the PMAGS been working out? Would buying them be a mistake?

Pmags is just about all I see used in the MWS. Becoming the gold standard.

Thanks for the feedback. They are saying 8 weeks lead right now. One more big hurdle to overcome and this order will be in the pipeline.

My Garand and 03's wont know what to make of this thing when it arrives.

Only issue I've had with PMAGS is most of them not dropping free. I sanded down the problematic ones until they did, so it's an easy fix.

Pmags work great. They are 100%, cheap, and readily available.

Nothing to be gained by getting the mags from LMT. Find them on sale elsewhere, or get them from Midway and use a coupon.

Also look for an MWS 16"SS (or even a 16"CL) from a dealer (usually cheaper than LMT), swap the black furniture to tan, sell the black.

The CL barrels shoot really well, and they look the same for less money.

That 3-4 month wait time from LMT could easily be a 6 month wait time.

I love their stuff but the ship times have a tendency to be optimistic.

All good suggestions but not a lot of options where I live for LMT products. Long lead times are fine. Any delivery before November will suit me.

5k sounds way high. Where did you see that price? A pelican case is 200 call it 300 since they cut it out. 8 pmags at $20 each and the KAC sights are 300. But they normally give you sights and one mag.
