LMT MWS....UBR vs. PRS

First post, long time lurker. Many thanks to all of you MWS guys who have unknowingly helped me along the way. I am finally getting my hands on a new 16" ss. I'm pretty solid on most of my set up, but I'm having some dilemma with the stock. I'm torn between the UBR and the PRS. This rifle will be an operational weapon for me. The thought behind it is interior sniper deployment (schools, malls, factories, etc.). Seems like these types of venues are becoming more common and I'm trying to build up a tool than I can use while entering with a team with the capabilities of transitioning to a marksman role when needed.

Im sure some will have opinions on the platform I selected and may disagree with my selection. As much as I appreciate your opinions, this is what I've chosen to roll with. Help me make it as effective as possible. Thanks in advance your input.

I have had both. The PRS was a little big and heavy for my likes. The UBR didn't do anything special for me. After trying all of the high end stock setups, i still like the LMT SOPMOD best. I have one on my 20" .308 and still like how it balances.

UBR if you're wearing body armor unless you have long arms.

UBR is a nice balance for a shorter weapon since the weight isn't extended so far rearward. LMT SOPMOD would be nice too.

If you haven't seen the UBR, the lockup is solid

I would stick with standard carbine stocks for that role. Keep the weight down and since you have the 16", with an optic and loaded magazine inserted, it will already balance out well with the Sopmod stock or a Magpul ACS, or any similar style stock. The PRS and UBR add unnecessary weight to the platform without any real advantage over the other lighter choices in my opinion, especially for an operational one.

Welcome to SH and the MWS club. I have a 16" ss and love it. Based on your parameters I would think the UBR would be a better choice. Ability to shorten it up for use w/ body armor but quickly adjust to whatever LOP you need. I like the streamline profile too - less to catch on other gear. My 2 cents. Stay safe.

You should add the State to your profile as a lot of guys here are pretty friendly and if you're close bye will let you check theirs out.

Another good option is the get both, decide what you like and pass the one you don't want on to another member in the classifieds for a reasonable price. Win-Win.

I have Magpul's FCS due to state law, but personally, I would also go with UBR. However, keep in mind that you will need to get a different buffer/recoil spring, since LMT uses regular buffers, but slightly longer Receiver Extensions.
As an alternative, you can try Magpul ACS on the factory RE - which is what Kevin B (from KAC) recommends.

Why not just stick with the sopmod to keep the weight down and for moments when youre on the move. The lmt is on average a solid moa shooter. Maybe a tad bit less with the right ammo and personal skill level. The really nice part of the lmt is you know you will hear a bang when you pull the trigger regardless what you feed it. Im still rocking the sopmod and will not be changing any time soon.... Id change the trigger before the stock.

Geisselle dmr trigger already on order. I've tried a few and really liked it. Looks like Ill keep the sopmod for the short term. I like the idea of adding the SAPR to whichever stock I end up with though, especially with a dot/point optic Ill be running at a 45 for cqb.

I've used the PRS a lot and although it has the adjustable comb, you have to put the butt pad pretty far to the rear so that your cheek bone actually rests on the 308 version. That means you wind up moving the scope rearward for proper eye relief which can make the area around your charging handle pretty crowded and ripe for catching your thumb under stressful malfunction drills. I like the standard LMT SOPMOD but have to be careful not to bump the lever with a rear bag if your going to be prone for awhile. Ultimately if an adjustable comb is not an issue I prefer a standard A2 stock or the Magpul STR for a collapsible.

I find with my body geometry and the shorter adjustable comb on the 308 PRS I am rarely able to use that feature regardless of where I put the adjustable butt pad. In your situation I would go with the STR or the ACS both of which I like better than my rifles that have the SOPMOD stock.
