Load for a 1903, 30-06

I have my grandfathers 1903 i want to start shooting int he local match, just curious if I can load this rifle to a normal charge with varget and 175smks? How much powder should I start with and work up too ?

Depends which one you got. There's a few weak ones out there. Put up the question in the rifle's section, I'm not a 1903 expert at all. I just know some exist with a poor heat treat. They happened in the 191x's I think though.

If it's a 30's era, non wartime production then you're good to go.

Also, the sights are setup to shoot early 20th century ammo, if you put Garand safe loads through it you'll get a much easier time making the dope get closer to the sight markings. You may or may not care about this, I'd probably skip it myself, to be honest.
