I have been loading .308 for bolt guns for a couple of years now. I have recently purchased a DPMS so I obviously want to load for it also. I have been using a standard RCBS die set this whole time, but I am wondering if I need to use a factory crimp for the DPMS. Any other differences in the way these need to be loaded that I am not aware of would be helpful. Thanks.

What kind of ammo are you loading? I load for my friend's DPMS LR-308 and it seems to be the same as loading for my bolt gun.

I wouldn't crimp any ammo that is going to be used in a match or for extreme distance.

People like to throw out .005" of neck tension for gas guns. My 223 RCBS FL sizer puts almost this onto the typical RP/LC brass that I shoot and I don't get any bullet setback, even chambering the same round a couple/few times.

Measure your sized necks and see what your die is doing vis-a-vis neck tension with the brass you'll be shooting in your gas gun. You might not have to crimp. My motto is is 'don't crimp if you don't have to' especially if your brass isn't always going to be trimmed to a specific length.
