<span style="font-style: italic">Tuition - $850 3 days, includes on base accommodations and food! Round count - minimum 300 but feel free to bring as much as you like, we'll shoot it. Some shooters in the last course dusted off 4 cases of ammo!</span>

This school is geared towards the long range hunter, target shooter or competitor. There aren't going to be any fieldcraft or sniper tactics taught for those wondering. If downing an Elk at 500 yards is your goal, we can help. If getting closer to making the elusive 'mile' shot is your fancy, we can help there too. Challenge yourself and push that rifle to its limits!

I’ve been meaning to do this for a while now so here goes.

I have had the opportunity to take several different firearms classes over the last several years – mostly home self defense and CCW. It seems a lot of guys get away with teaching classes where you stare at the NRA pistol poster, they help the new guys try and figure out if they brought a revolver or semi-auto, then maybe we put a few rounds down range….and if you can hit the broad side of barn at 7 ft. your “qualified” to apply for your CCW….disappointing to say the least.

I found the Precision Rifle Workshop when a coworker and I were looking for a “hands on” basic pistol class that would satisfy his county’s requirements for his CCW permit. I found the instruction, lecture and drills absolutely awesome. After some conversation with PRW staff I put a Mark 4 ERT on a willed down Rem 700 .308 Varmint and attended their Basic Rifle class a few months later. I learned a lot; trigger control, breathing, scope basics, figuring/dialing dope, positional drills and rifle maintenance.

Still that wasn’t nearly enough – I had to attend the PRW Extreme Long Range Class in Guernsey, Wyoming last September 28-30, 2010 to try my hand at reaching out to that 1000 yd mark.

There is no need to reiterate the topics Butterpants has listed above – you will gain an understanding and be familiar with all of them and more. As they say…”you take away what you put into it.”

I came away with a full understanding of long range ballistics, the limitations of a .308 for really “reaching out” there, what equipment works/doesn’t work and the confidence in myself/equipment to shoot 1000+ yds.

The class also opened my eyes (and my wallet) to long range precision game here in Colorado and New Mexico. I got bit and have been shooting every match in Raton and Pueblo I can make and looking forward to my first Steel Safari in June.

If you not careful this class can cost you a whole lot of money. Let me explain; got introduced to Litz’s book….had to go buy a copy and read it…then read it again. We were introduced to LoadBase 3.0 (it kicks ass)…had to buy that. After shooting Butterpants and ColoWyo’s rigs on the unknown sniper range…had to have a .260 Remington. The .260 build required a new Jewell trigger, Krieger barrel, McMillan A4, Badger bottom metal, AICS mags and a TBAC 30P-1. …..the last few months have been expensive.

The coaches are great, personable and very knowledgeable, the barracks and mess hall are more than what you would expect at a base in the middle of Wyoming and the ranges are first class (the green zombie range is really cool). If you have intentions of getting into the long range competition game – this if for you. You will not be disappointed!!

How often do you hold these classes? I would love to come to one of these, but I will be out on business the week of this class.

Twice a year typically , May and Sept , don't remember the Sept dates for sure but it is towards the end of the month . Best bet is to check the website or get hold of Mr Butterpants .

When is the cut off date for the class in sept.? BTW I'd REALLY like a crack at that 2500 yard or meter target with the .408 Cheytac.

You can sign up whenever, assuming the class isn't full.

With the terrain, anything past a mile is pretty difficult to spot misses, so good luck on 2500 hah

Those who aren't from here should know that Wyoming spring weather is predictably unpredictable. The only fairly consistent weather feature is wind. I recommend being prepared with everything from long underwear to sunscreen. That said, the Weather.com forecast for Guernsey is pretty darn good - highs in the 60s predicted. I look forward to meeting you all and learning how to shoot this thing. Best regards, ELN.
