Precision Rifle Workshop - Extreme Long Range Rifle
Sept 30th-Oct2nd, 2009- Guernsey, WY
http://www.precisionrifleworkshop.com/index.html

"Bring that .50 BMG, that 300 Win, the .338, or even that tuned 7mm Mag. and shoot out to 1500 yards. Learn about wind calls, long range ballistics and build the ultimate drop chart".
(Tuition - $550 3 days, includes on base accommodations and food! Round count - minimum 300 but feel free to bring as much as you like, we'll shoot it)

This school is geared towards the long range hunter or target shooter. There aren't going to be any fieldcraft or sniper tactics taught for those wondering. If downing an Elk at 500 yards is your goal, we can help. If getting closer to making the elusive 'mile' shot is your fancy, we can help there too. Challenge yourself and push that rifle to its limits!

Topics to be covered:

- Positional Fundamentals
- Ammo selection
- Rifle/gear Selection
- Ballistics to include calculation of a Density Altitude based
elevation adjustment chart
- Wind reading and calls
- Spotting your own hits
- Shooting 100-1000yds on paper, 300-1500 yds on steel

If you've got any questions shoot me a PM or post here and i'll try to answer them. In this shitty economy fellas (and ladies of course) you don't much better of a deal than this. The base food isn't bad either.....

Re: Long Range Class - Guernsey, WY - Sept30-Oct2

This is about as affordable as it is going to get on the front range . Mr B can shoot a little bit also , should be a good class .

Re: Long Range Class - Guernsey, WY - Sept30-Oct2

Rhys I think that's the general consensus just about everywhere, that's why I had them include room/board in the price. Initially wasn't so, but a few bucks off the net to keep people happy and make life easy is worth it in my opinion.

Re: Long Range Class - Guernsey, WY - Sept30-Oct2

That was going to be my next question. I'm running a 155 A-MAX at 2980. Sierra indicats it would be down to about 1100-1150 fps at 1500 yards. Also shown I should have about 6 mils elevation left at that distance.

Re: Long Range Class - Guernsey, WY - Sept30-Oct2

I would think that a 308 would be fine , the stuff past about 11 - 1200 may be fun . I have and shoot with guy's that have made hits at 1350 with 308 . Definitely way out on the edge of it's capability though .

Mr B is at his " day " job right now and won't be able to answer till the AM .

Yep 308 is terrific. While 1500 is sure a poke for that cartridge, doesn't mean we'll be spending all day shooting that far. Quite the opposite. A good percentage of one day will be spent between 300-1000 on paper and the next 300-1500 on steel. I'll put the steel wherever you guys want.

Re: Long Range Class - Guernsey, WY - Sept30-Oct2

What time would this be starting and finishing? If I can jockey some things around I may be able to make it, but won't know for certain until probably the week prior.

Re: Long Range Class - Guernsey, WY - Sept30-Oct2

Thanks for the info, but will have to pass this time. Have meetings the morning of the 30th and the 2nd. Could have missed one of them but deffinately not both.

Re: Long Range Class - Guernsey, WY - Sept30-Oct2

And the course is in the bag. Thanks to all who attended and Guernsey ANG Base for letting us use their truly world class facility.

The first day we started out on a 1000 yard range and incremental yardage shooting to verify dope, along with chrono'ing ammo and zeroing a scope or two. Most students brought more than one rifle. We saw 22-250, 260, 308, 30T/C, 300WM, 338RM and 50BMG in a variety of rifles, custom and off the shelf.

Wind was ugly everyday due to it being Wyoming and all. Constantly changing directions and sustained winds over 25mph with gusts to 40.

Re: Long Range Class - Guernsey, WY - Sept30-Oct2

The second day brought us to their N15 range which is electronically controlled and has green badguys that mechanically drop when hit then rise (kind of like a LaRue sniper target) from 100 to 1500 yards. There are also vehicle sized targets for the 50ies. Sustained 30 mph winds most of this day...oh and it snowed too. When we broke for a long lunch there was a good hour long talk and powerpoint on external ballistics, followed by some uses of Patagonia Loadbase and Density Altitude.

The third day had us on the N18 range which was littered with vehicles and steel to shoot at, from 200 past 2000 yards. Wind wasn't as bad (still over a sustained 20mph) and it didn't snow, so all were happy. We had a student hit a 1500 yard steel ipsc with a 308! But of course the 50 shooter didn't want to feel shown up and then banged it after 4 tried as well. Talk about a difference in terminal impact energy.
