i tried a load that is supposed to be a close replica of the fed 175 seirra match load. I loaded 42.2 grains of 4064 under seirra 175 gold match bullet. It didnt group tighter than 1.5 inch at 100? and about 4 inch at 250. i use the 168s and will go 10 for 10 on a 9 inch square plate at 600 yards but after that consistency lacks.
any tips on a load that works great for your rifles would help me A LOT.
thank you

Re: long Range load for remy 700P?

Try working your load up from the min. You should see accurate nodes come and go. For starters and if you dont have a chrony work up till you see pressure signs and go with yout last accurate node. If you see 2 groups that are close you can split the difference for a non sensitive load. Keep playing with that making sure your shots are good shots. Don't let the bbl get to hot. Thats just a basic workup that deff will work better than "just loading up" for the most part. If your shooting longer than say 600yds I would keep with the 175 SMK like you are while the 168 SMK gives me my best accuracy at closer ranges but starts going crazy past that. Under 600yds the 168 is fine I believe. Good luck, if you have any trouble report back and people here will help you out.

For starters bump your charges .5 grns for three to 5 shot batches. Go till you start getting sticky bolts or flattend primers. There are other signs and you need to look farther into this past my basic high points. You can custom tailor your load to your rifle and get the best accuracy. Start out at just barly touching the rifling and go from there.

The answer to every question that you'd ever want to know lives inside this site and it won't even cost you a penny: It's called the <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-size: 17pt">SEARCH FUNCTION </span></span>

Re: long Range load for remy 700P?

Hey thanks for the help you guys ill try that. I just figured if the factory 168s work great, and my reloaded 168s work great. I guess i was hoping to get lucky with the 175s. I am using different brass than fed uses and mabey it isnt as close a replica as i had read. Either way ill try different powder loads. I need to get out past 600 period end of story. Thanks Rollercam. I guess your right about the search function, but there wouldnt be a point for people to keep posting questions they have, if all they had to do was use the SEARCH FUNCTION and answer there own. Its a forum and if its a repeated question dont respond.

Re: long Range load for remy 700P?

OP,
I used the M118LR clone these folks have cooked up and while its not the best my rifle shoots, its a very nice starting point. I've found its a bit like FGMM, most rifles like it.

Bullet: 175 SMK
Powder: 43.1 grains of RL-15
Brass: LC LR
Primer: Fed 210M
OAL: 2.810

May I suggest their reloading stickies at the top of the page, they've helped me a ton.

Re: long Range load for remy 700P?

Use whatever brass you like.

You might not likely get a long range load by just using someone elses recipe... simple as that. My load might give me 1/4 to 1/2 MOA, but i might give you 1.5MOA.

And thats a 10" difference at best at 1000 yards... most likely it wont even have the same consistent bullet drop.

Anyway, Il let you figure that out.

Lapua Scenar 155gr projectiles are good for 1000 yards +
Lapua Lockbase 170gr are also good for long range shooting.
Sierra MK 175
Hornady 178 A-max
Berger 155, 175 and 185 VLD are also good.

I use the following loads.

Lapua 155 Scenar, 46.3gr Varget, Lapua Brass, Fed210M Primer

SMK 175, 45.0gr Varget, Lapua Brass, Fed 210M Primer
