Hey there fellow shooters.
I've been doing lots of research on long range riflescopes for my next rifle build, primarily for practical shootings sports like PRS & NRL. I wanted to get some feedback from the experts on here. I'm really mostly interested in what are some of the more advanced items/features to look for are, and what some pro's and con's in this space are to watch out for.
For example, 30mm vs 34mm tube, what is the main advantage for either one (aside for amount of elevation). Do you get a clearer picture with more tube diameter, if it corresponds to a larger objective lens like 56mm?
From what I gather, eye relief should be at least 3.8 inches +, eye box size is another thing to look for, but what about FOV? What's considered good, excellent, exceptional?
Also, what about illumination? Is that an important feature for competition, when you're generally shooting in decent light? It seems like most optics in this space have it, but do guys actually use it?
As far as reticle, I won't get into MRAD vs MOA (since most guys prefer MRAD in this sport, and I do too, but neither here nor there), what is the recommended reticle type? Something that has .2, .4, .5, .6 and .8 MRAD subtensions on the windage axis? The Vortex EBR7C seems to be quite popular, or at least that style., but why and maybe someone can give me some info on that.
What about things like the elevation turrets and a rotation indicator?
Of course things like FFP and MRAD are a given (as a preference for most guys), but other than that, is there anything else that makes you recommend one optic over another in the $1800-$3000 space?
Anything else that I may have missed?
Thanks!
