Re: Long Range Training in WA, Summer Schedule
Class: Precision Long Range Rifle
Instructor: Caylen Wojcik
Location: Three Forks, MT
I would like to say thanks to Caylen for coming out to Three Forks, MT and putting on an excellent long range shooting class.
Prior to taking this class, I had not really thought much about what it takes to consistently hit targets at distances out to a 1000 yards. All of the shooting I had done in the past was geared towards hunting distances for the kind of hunting I do here in Montana. Once I had registered for the class, I did a lot of reading about long range precision shooting and quickly realized that there is way more involved than just squeezing the trigger.
The class was well paced and well organized. Caylen did an excellent job helping get all of the different rifles and scopes that the participants were using set up correctly. The class covered the fundamental aspects of shooting position, equipment setup, and environment conditions; all of which need to be accounted for when precision shooting at long distances. Consistent application of the fundamentals was stressed again and again. Over the course of the class, everyone in the class gained the ability and confidence to consistently hit targets out to a 1000 yards.
In addition to shooting, I was able to experience what goes into spotting for a shooter. In my view, spotting the shooter correctly is a necessary skill. If the spotter is not calling in the shooter correctly, the shooter will be shooting unnecessary rounds and will not be getting shots on target in an efficient manner. Caylen did cover important spotting techniques in the class. I actually found that I enjoyed spotting. It is nice to be able to call a shooters groups into the center of the target at long range distances. Also, seeing a round glint in the sunlight as it flies out to the 1000 yard target is something that you have to see for yourself
Again, thanks to Caylen for traveling to Three Forks to put on this class. I probably never would have taken a class like this otherwise. If you are reading this and are considering taking the class, I say absolutely take it the first chance you get. This is excellent training. I am planning on taking the next level of this class as soon as I can.
