I wanted to know if Chad Dixon of Long Rifles Inc is a good smith? He looks like it from the website but I need real references. Please fill me in if he is good to go.

thanks!

LOL ok thanks. I had to ask. Chad as soon as my parts are in your gonna have a fine rifle to build. I'll PM you the details

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

The photos and write ups he has posted here are certainly confidence inspiring. If I were in need of a smith I would have no reservations sending work his way.

Of course you could just saddle your pony and ride up to Sturgis and see for your self.

I think I'd do that before I'd start casting doubts.

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

You will be hard pressed to find another smith that can match his attention to detail. The guns he and Garret build are quite simply a work of art and will shoot way better than the operator. You will not be disappointed with his work.

PM sent about the rifle I had to return to him that's been at his shop since December 5th.

I guess some people are just more picky about "the details".

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

Same here not too happy I wouldnt use him again. Time frame was way off, rifle was packed poorly on return, and chambering wasnt what I had discussed.

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

I have been 100% satisfied with Chad as a smith and friend. His time line for me is almost to fast. My work is in and out before I know it. I am more than happy and I am sure Chad has worked with the others above who are saying less than stellar things. You cant please all the people all the time but Chad does pretty damn good at pleasing 99% or better of them. Some people would bitch even if he threw in new ring bases and scope on every build he does. That is just the way it is.

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

Think what you want, but I'm not nit picking anything.
I don't plan to post anything negative.
I just want my rifle back shooting as promissed.
On the phone Chad seems like a good guy, probably does great work 99% of the time, mine was a 1%'er I guess.

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

I hear not everyone can be happy. My biggest issue was how I got my two barrels, bolt and Nesika action all throw in a case with no packing. Everything got banged up. I sure as hell didn't ship it out like that. I you don't care about somebody's equipment where else will you be careless? My week turn around turned into 3 months. Sh+t happens right?

Well there is two sides to every story and so far we only have one. Maybe Chad will chime in and address these issues.

I agree that there are two sides to every story but when is there ever an excuse for throwing someone's stuff into a box unpacked and shipping it.

A low-down dirty smith (not the one being discussed here) did that to a friend of mine once and included the stock that he tore to pieces so badly that it had to be replaced.

No call for it at all.

I agree on the packaging issue. I have a hard time believing it went down that way but hey I didnt watch him pack it so I can't say one way or the other. I find it hard to believe based on the time that I have spent with Chad with him at the shop and watching him work. He spends so much time and puts so much effort into everything and making sure whatever he is working on is as perfect as it can be. Why spend that much time and energy only to just throw all the parts into a box and ship it across the country knowing that it will get the crap beat out of it. Just doesn't seem like something a person who somewhat relies on word of mouth to grow a new business would do. Kinda like shitting where you eat. Just my .02.

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

Every instance that I know of that someone was less than happy with Chads work and they called him and discussed it with him, he bent over backwards to make things right with them. I am not saying I know what happened to the gentlemen above, all I am saying is what I know. If things didnt go right, I hope they work out for you. As far as using a smith, I will only use Chad.

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

The first time my rifle was returned, it was put in a $20 plastic guncase and duct taped shut, label taped to the guncase.

I shipped it to him bubblewrapped in a plastic guncase(bolt out and wrapped seperately) then in a heavy cardboard box. Guess it got last it the move :^))

From the pm's i've been receiving and from my own experience, he is not bending over in ANY DIRECTION, let alone backwards. In FACT, he's not moving at all on any of the rework that needs to be done.

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

I personally know of 2 people that have dealt with Long Rifles, Inc. and both had issues. One still doesn't have his rifle back after several months. I would not send any parts their way.

People used to love Lawton Machine right up until they started getting hosed. Unfortunately I know one guy that's been hosed by both companies. I don't know of any way to prevent it either ..... you pick a builder based on their reputation and hope it works out.

Why don't you just come out and say that this friend of yours that still doesn't have his gun back is actually participating in this thread instead of trying to insinuate that there is possibly 2 more people that you know that are not happy when really it is only maybe one?

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

He recently did some work for me that was top notch. I have work from several known names in the business and IMO his is right there with the others. Attention to detail is better than some I've dealt with and the turn around time was just what he said it would be.

There are 2 total. I really hope C. chimes in here but, I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

Chad did a bolt flute for me. We talked on the phone and I was given a short turn around time and price. It took him six weeks instead of the five days he promised. He also put a bolt knob on and charged me for it when I never ever asked for a knob. When I questioned it he said he could take it off but inferred it would take much longer to get the bolt back.
Was the work he performed top notch? In my estimation, yes, it was quite nicely done. But it should not have become such a PITA and I should not have been nailed for work I did not authorize.
I would trust his skills as a gunsmith without question but his word is not good here.
Maybe I am in that 1% that just can't be satisfied???

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

He talks a good game and has the right credentials. As far as delivering thats a different story. He probabaly does excellent works but the customer but its the other things that matter just as much. I paint on the side and if I tell a customer his car or gun will be done a certain way and in a certain time frame I stick to it.

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

thats to bad he is that way, i had a some parts to send but
Im JCH's Buddy that got the box of parts back un-packed because a smith missing his deadline and then lied about it. I will pass thanks not going to chance it.......

Re: longriflesinc.com References for Chad Dixon?

I'm so glad I came to my senses and chose another smith !
smile.gif

I've been around collecting guns for about 20 years so I'm fairly new but I've seen enough to know when a guy is way in over his head. I'm sure that pretty new building he bought is part of the reason things are going wrong. He has to pay for it and he's trying to turn and burn rifles doing so. He's taken on way too much work and now the customer suffers because of it.

You hand a guy parts worth enough to almost buy a car you expect NO you DEMAND results. He should be ashamed of himself.

MODS as this was my thread and I DO NOT want anything to do with longriflesinc.com OR Chad Dixon Can you please close this thread down and maybe start a new thread with the issue at hand? I don't think the hide needs this kind of "smith" in it's ranks.

Thanks.
