On Friday, Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Ed Markey (D-Mass.) will release their Monthly Economic Crisis Support Act. It would dramatically expand upon the $1,200 sent to Americans as part of March’s gargantuan coronavirus response bill.

The legislation would send a monthly $2,000 check to people who make less than $120,000. It would expand to $4,000 to married couples who file taxes jointly and also provide $2,000 for each child up to three. Harris said the bill is a reflection that Congress’s efforts so far were not “nearly enough to meet the needs of this historic crisis” and Markey called the massive cash infusion “the most direct and efficient mechanism for delivering economic relief to those most vulnerable.”

NO checks should be sent to people that have not had their income disrupted by the quarantine. I know WAY too many people that worked through the quarantine and still got a check. That money should be available for small business loans.

This is the communists attempt to buy more votes before the election.

When I've tried to explain to the younger soldiers that this money they are getting is gonna have to be repaid, I get the response of "who cares". This is the society we live in. Instant gratification and who cares about financial responsibility

No, that money doesn't have to be repaid; in fact, it can't be repaid, because we'll be sitting at 150% debt-to-GDP ratio by the end of this year. Shit, raise interest rates to about 6% (like they were in the mid-90s), and just the interest on the current debt takes up about 2/3rds of all tax receipts at the federal level.

I can't blame the younger generation for setting things in this way when it's been the previous generations that put everyone into maybe amounts of debt (both public and private). Those younger kids have never seen financially-responsible behavior and won't until our society is forced to live within its means by some sort of existential crisis.

She is going to fund it with her side job

No checks should be sent to anyone, period. If you are no "Essential", make yourself essential.

Good lord they are going to send $120K/year to people with 3 kids as long as they aren't making over $120K already? So someone with a $110K/yr job is going to be pulling in $230K?

They really just aren't even pretending to not buy off idiots to vote for them anymore.

Yea, let's make the .gov tit bigger, especially for those that haven't paid into it, so, they really don't want to get off their ASSes to go to work and create even a larger FSA. Can't wait to see what my taxes will be in 2020, because, the coffers will need to be filled again for the next round of free-shit, some way. Just F! Mac:mad:

It's only thinly veiled path to socialism. Many many folks prefer a check over freedom and if they get .gov money they don't care to work. To pay for it they will shackle those of us who WORK and continue to want to WORK. If it continues it will collapse the free men through over taxation and attrition. See Rome, etc or any other free state that progressed to the point where the masses capitulate to the token carrot in front of their noses.

They know good and damn well that this shit won't pass through both houses or be signed off by the president, this is political pandering to say "we tried to help you commonfolk, but the Republicans wouldn't let us, vote for us because we will help you next time we're in power" it's not even a political gamble for the Democrats to do this, it's just an easy spectacle to draw attention coming into an election cycle. Classic carrot and stick tactics that the Democrats have used forever to goad the unsuspecting Poors into voting for them again and again.

Introducing and promoting a bill like this is just another way that career politicians can raise their vote count and campaign while "working" on the taxpayer's dime.

I still like the concept that any year we over run our revenue, all sitting members of Congress are ineligible for re-election. If you or I managed our paychecks the way the ruling class handles our tax revenue, our houses would be foreclosed, our kids would starve, and we would have a credit score of 12. My biggest disappointment with our current batch of Republicans is the total lack of interest in curbing the Democrats never ending lust for spending more than they have. Washington would be better served by a bunch of ten year old Afghani orphans who sell sandals on the street for a living than by our current batch of leeches.

Go read the CBO reports (or any other reports) on the deficit during this administration. It was going up big time before COVID 19. Massive non recession and non wartime spending. Tax cuts for the mega rich which are unpaid for. Not a peep from anyone.

Bush and Obama had massive debts also, but they both dealt with 9/11 and the Great Recession.

My wife and I already both work from home (and have continued to work normally) so for us the only impact is being stuck in the house on weekends. There is no reason for us to get "free" checks. I really don't understand how they came up with these numbers either. This would put the payout for a married couple with 2 kids at $8k/month. Median household income in the US is $63k/year which means that the average person would be getting far more money from the govt then they earned at their jobs...

Buying votes with tax money?
2 can play that game.

Two or three days before election the Republicans double the bid for thier votes.

If the economy is going to tank I want Republican oversite steering the crash my direction.

That is why I do not understand where they get their numbers from of wanting to send $2,000 a month to individuals, $4,000 to couples, and more for dependents. Man, that is a lot of money, especially for those still working. Or, those who never even made that much to begin with. Who decided that everyone should get these handouts? Why do they think it is a good idea? Everyone loves free money, but the wiser of us know it is not free in the end. Those still working with largely unchanged lifestyles do not need this support, so what are we to do with all this money while we watch it grow the national debt and possibly lead to an economic depression?

Here was the last CBO analysis of the federal budget before the 'rona hit:

It looks as if the White House was proposing some budget changes that would drop the yearly deficit from, uh, $1.1B to a far more reasonable, uh, $900 billion. Progress, I guess?

This exactly. I'm in the army and my wife works as a teacher on post. We both have been getting paid through this whole thing. That would almost double what we would make this year. That's fucking crazy.

haven’t run the numbers, but I’d say If they’re going to do it, then eliminate welfare, social security and all the other entitlements, then give those who file taxes the money. Might come out ahead

I worked through the quarantine with no disruption to my income, and received a (small) check. I agree with Mwalex.

And, I fully expect to see some sort of "pay back your Covid stimulus money" line item on my taxes next year...

And that is another thing, they are giving the money to everyone -- those working and those who have been steady receiving other support who have had to learn to live on that. Why? What is it about right now that these people need this much during this time? Sure, people who lost work need help with bills and expenses and I am all about not letting people starve or go homeless, but people who have not lost income, what expenses do they need help with right now?

Husband and I, our income has not changed. We are not ones to turn down free money, but I question the carrot.

So let me get this strait,
I worked all my life and never got any handouts or unemployment.

You would take my ss benifits from me? I paid into it since the early 1970's and you would take it from me?

You would take the gov handouts from me? I still pay income taxes and have since the 70's.

You would throw away what I have done all my life and treat me like a chronic government life long leach?

Just what kind of communism is that?

I’ve been working hard to pay all my debts (now debt free except for the 15 year mortgage) and accelerate my mortgage principal payments. When the great inflation hits in response to the currency expansion I could have paid off debts with cheaper money, but instead I was responsible and did it sooner.

My wife and I got about a half ration check last month, but we’re both still working and didn’t need or want it, I put it towards paying off our only car payment. If stimulus 2.0 comes and they start paying us another $48K annually it’s all going directly to mortgage principal.

And honestly, that is what I am going to do with any extra money they want to send me.. pay off towards debt, like mortgage.

Don't look at the trees, look at the forest. These "handouts" are nothing more than another pawn in the game of chess for the left to try and steal this election.

If EVERYONE gets a check, conservatives can't say the left is only trying to help their base. In the mean time, the country gets dragged closer to the drain.

My wife and I have not recived a check for the stimulus yet.

Wondering if we will at all.

I get a small retirement and my wife works at a grocery store.

I will be 62 in August and hope ss is going to pay my earned ammount.

Can not imagine the type of person that thinks my wife and I should not get what was earned.

The concept that I really hate in all of this is that we won't be cutting spending on other projects and proposals to offset the relief payments. I also get pissed off at talk from senator limpwristy Graham that we should Welch on debt we owe to China.

Don't get me wrong, I spent 3 years doing product development with Chinese production teams, that experience insured that there is nobody that dislikes the communist Chinese government or the inherant problems with globalised production more than me, but to me, refusing to pay a debt given in good faith is about the most cowardly slimey thing we could do as a country. Finding some opportunistic wishy-washy reason to not repay China is only going to accelerate pre-war tensions with big red and it won't fix our fascination with maxing out a federal credit card so the underlying problem will remain. On top of that, if the government welches on a deal with a nuclear armed adversary, how much value will any of us hold for our privately held Treasury bonds? I don't think anyone on this board would raise their kids to borrow money and then skip out on paying back and I don't think we should advocate for that as a country either.

If any candidate from either party started talking logically about buying the Chinese out of our production and supply systems, bringing production back to the continental us, and repaying debts and interest to bond holders and getting us back on level ground with our debt to spending ratio, they would have my vote. But instead they all keep squabbling about health insurance, abortion, gay marriage, drinking bleach, and what guns I'm allowed to have, so I guess I'll just have to write in Chesty Puller again in November.

We haven't received any stimulus money yet, either.

I hope you do get what you earn. If they are giving it out, and it can be used, definitely take it and use it.

I just want to understand more their thinking, since I cannot seem to find much. I want to know more of where it is coming from and how this will effect the future economy is all.

This country is full of people who don't have a clue, an believe everything piped pipers tout. The amount of,... none thinkers/doers/.gov lock steppers, in this country is over whelming.
