looking for a .50 bmg

I've got to 50 bug and have been looking at a Barrett 99 or a Armilite ar-50, and what I have been reading ar-50 is a little more accurate. My question is has anyone heard of problems with the Armalight, I was at my LGS and said they had to send back a ar-30 about 4 times and never got it right customer finally just sold it. I have not been able to find any bad comments about them,and I know everyone has a lemon.
Just wondering if anyone here has shot both and what there thoughts are.

My opinion is, the AR 50 is the way to go. I see your in Iowa. I am in Grimes/Des Moines myself!! I have shot the Barrett and Armalite prior to me making my decision. I ended up with the Armalite because I was convinced it was "more accurate". It is a beast!! With the Nightforce and heavy APA bipod it is probably around 50 pounds. However, it is a 1/2 MOA gun if you find the right AMAX load. With my crappy reloaded ball ammo, it is around 1 MOA. By the way, using surplus powder and pulled down 649 grain bullets, you can reload for around $1 a piece for plinking. Wideners is where i buy these components. WC867 powder for $40 per 8 lbs last i checked.

There is not really anything that can go wrong with the AR50 or Barrett. Therefore, as far as gettting a "lemon", I think your chances are slim. Many people, including me, rave about the AR50. I have probably 600 rounds through mine and it is awesome. Easy to shoot too. probably recoils like a 12 gauge. The concussion is big, but all in all a fairly "tame" rifle to shoot. If you get the AR 50, get the APA bipod and Monopod!! Much more stable than some of the others!!!!!

With that said, do you have a place to shoot further than 300 yards? Your wasting ammo and money if not. The bullet doesnt even "go to sleep" on a 50 until well past 100 yards.

Shot the AR-50 once. Recoil was no issue. Concussion on the other hand was intense. I have a repaired broken front tooth and got sharp nerve pains everytime I shot it. Over all very accurate gun.

Once you're convinced to go ahead and make a 50BMG purchase, SAC, be sure to trawl the gun auction websites. You'll find plenty of 50's for sale by folks that got the bug, and then abandoned the investment for one reason or another. You're likely to save a bundle.
