Re: looking for action screw for a rem 700

If it's just the screw that's stripped, & the action's fine, first try calling/visiting any & every place local that does any smithing/sells firearms. Look at it as a chance to get to know a few smiths in your area, particularly ones you didn't know existed before.

I know for bedding I just use 1/4x28 bolts with the heads cut off. Though they're a bit loose thread fit wise were I thinking on bolting an action in place with'em. Time for me to buy a thread pitch gauge, well, past time, but...
That said, likely some other Hide members will chime in.

I have oodles of em.

SS with an extra deep socket for the tool.

$9.99 each.

(that's considered raping until you sit down and try to make one in a single operation on anything less than a screw machine, then a couple hundred after that. . .)

I haven't tried it, but Midway USA has a gunsmith locator. It appears to be a search engine that'll find a few smiths for you based on your AO, & the type of work you need done. http://www.midwayusa.com/gunsmithlocator/home.aspx
I'm actually kinda' curious as to feedback on how well it works/other Hide members thoughts on how well it matched them up with a smith.
