I'm looking at leupold mark 4, 4.5x14x50 but not sure if i should get the illuminated reticle or not or if it actually makes that big of a differance, any input would be a appreciated thanks

Re: looking for advice on a scope

I would spend just a little more and get a NF much better scope and, comes standard with illum. and ALOT of reticle options

Re: looking for advice on a scope

I like mine fine and I have the illuminated tmr reticle. I bought it from Noveske when the price point was approx. $1000. That being said, I never use the ill feature as it is on 6.5 Grendel AA GDMR primarily being shot at 100 yards daytime doing load development during bright sunlight. It is SFP which allows for a very fine reticle even at 14 power and good for paper punching, however, I do prefer my other high end scope (USO 1.8-10 SN-3 FFP) by quite a margin. Good luck.

Re: looking for advice on a scope

tex, looks like youre new here.
dont be too surprised that theres not many leupold fans hanging around these parts.

save up $500 more for a nightforce.

Re: looking for advice on a scope

how about you COMPLETE your profile please....like where the f are you at....

many folks still win matches with leupold....and the lit reticules are are very useful, certainly late in the day, early morning and at night they are a must....IF you should ever see yourself in those situations....you want the lit reticule.

Re: looking for advice on a scope

I like my 4-16x40mm illuminated mil-dot reticle. The illumination comes in handy when hunting game in early morning/late evening because the black reticle disappears on dark brown animals. Whether it be squirrels, deer, or bear.

Re: looking for advice on a scope

what reticle in the NF should I lean towards, I'll be doing a lot of long range varmint hunting, deer hunting, and just shooting at the range, i like the mlr ret. but just looking for some opinions

Re: looking for advice on a scope

I have one with the NP-R1 and love it. fine enough to get some real precise shots and with the lit ret. good for low light. and, its good for drop, etc w/ out dialing if your in a hurry.
