I have been a lurker for a while. I have read all the posts that pretty much have to do with a AR in 308. I want to build one, but I want to do it slowly. I have build a few ar's in 5.56 and I got rid of them all and bought a 6920. Now I am ready to start buying components in 308. All I know is I want to be able to use magpul mags and I want a 20 inch barrel, I guess a 22 isnt more accurate than a 20. other than those 2 requirements I am only focused on accuracy. Where should I start looking for a stripped upper and lower? I found the Ma-ten deal for both for under 500 bucks, is there anything else out there?

Re: looking for advice

what is good for around 1k to start. I? it seems the 308 gear is alittle more expensive than the 5.56. I will keep checking the classified and the EE on ar15.com. Man I think this is goig to be harder than I thought. How accurate and how far can a 5.56 ar shoot with a 20to 24 inch barre. I already reload for my ar.

Re: looking for advice

If price is a restriction then check into the DPMS LR-308. Mine shoots 3/4 MOA, uses Magpul mags and functions reliably. I'm very happy with mine as I've got hardly any money into mine and it shoots great. Later on after you shoot the barrel out then send the rifle to GA Precision to have them do their magic on it and rebarrel it. They'll make it shoot even better.
