LWRC REPR-no personal experience other than reading/watching a lot of reviews. It was a top consideration of mine before I bought LMT.
0 interest in an overrated overpriced SR25, and definitely not looking for an AK47 knockoff.

A lot of stuff is proprietary with 308s and even more so since you're set on a piston gun. LMT does not make a piston 308.
HK makes a nice .308, expensive however.
I think however you could get more precision with a custom built GAP or JP etc.
The HK ones would be pretty reliable however.
Ruger makes a nice Piston driven one that's pretty cost effective. Probably not in the high "Precision" range however.

HK's aren't gas operated, they're (roller delayed) blowback, unless you mean the AR. In which case if you think the SR25 is overpriced and overrated, then the HK AR is moreso --and it's less accurate. All of these also use proprietary systems, same thing with KAC. I guess I don't get what you want out of this.
Most of the current HK rifles are gas systems.
The roller locked stuff was mostly discontinued long ago, except for a few things like MP5 variants & some special contract runs.
HK makes an AR platform rifle in 5.56 that is piston driven and has excellent reliability. They also make the same in 7.62
Both generally have better long term reliability between maintenance needs that most others.
They are well built, the civilian ones are a bit on the heavy side, my only real grip is that they didn't offer longer barrels at the time.

LMT just won the Estonian Mil contract. They requested piston rifles in 5.56 and 7.62. It appears LMT has made piston MWS’ for that contract. I haven’t seen or heard anything about it being released for civilian sales.
Seems that LMT is giving FN, HK, and KAC(even thought they’re kissing cousins) a run for their money in the military market.
Before making a choice, I would call LMT and ask about this rifle.

The F&D 308 is a precision piston AR, the rifles have a rocky past with the old owner but from users the rifles are reported to be very accurate.

I have a 5.56 HK and it always goes bang when you pull the trigger. It is heavy too. That is one reason it is always my go to rifle for new shooters.
I ran a pws mk216 for a few years as my S.W.A.T. entry/ddm rifle..it was my favorite rifle ever and was extremely accurate and versatile..deeply regret getting rid of it every time I shoot a rifle

The HK AR platform is really nice, you are however pushing close to the $3k and $5k marks for the 5.56 or 7.62 versions.
All of these mfg's make .308 semi's and they all take different proprietary magazines, there is no standardization across ar-10's,
LMT .308 has some foreign military contracts(NZ, Australia, UK) heavy gun easily swappable for caliber/barrel, heard that New Zealand just did a bunch of warranty claims for their 5.56 LMT's. Pins and bcg's breaking.
HK7.62 Uber expensive, proprietary polymer mags, not sure if pmags work. Selected as the New US Army sniper rifle CSASS or something like that.
LWRC Used to own a first generation REPR, accurate enough. New ones have multiple position gas switch like a fal, essentially a copy of the HK7.62 piston. Uses Pmags comes with geissele trigger.
FN SCAR Some US military contracts, continuation funding questionable may convert to 6.5cm. metal mags, factory trigger is shit, upgrade to a geissele.
DSA FAL Old right Arm of the free world, father to the scar. A battle rifle that will give you anywhere between 1-3 moa.
NEMO mixed reviews, lots more proprietary parts.

From what I've seen a piston gun isn't much if any better than di, just heavier. Especially one that's tuned well.

Pretty sure that second sentence is a lie. Its a 20 in barrel, we all the the pro's and con's of barrel length but at 20 inches you're not getting maximum velocity.

What? The HK is a roller delayed blowback (not the AR's or some 5.56's), the SR25 does have a less than 1MOA guarantee and the HK AR has a 1.5MOA guarantee and they both use proprietary parts. My info is fine and comes from the manufacturer. Facts are facts. I get you like HK, I like KAC, but it is what it is.
Apparently people are getting better groups with that damn Mk20 than either the SR25 or the HK. It's advertise subMOA I think and guys on here are saying they're getting .4MOA but you're stuck with 168's for the most part with the 1/12 twist. And it's just under $4k, so less than either of the above. Just make sure you get the Quigley FFP 525 and not some shit ass S&B or Kahles, I understand they're tough on optics.

If you want precision go JP or GAP10 and be done with it, as they both are 1&2 in accuracy in an AR platform (not to mention JP and GAP both support many shooting matches across the country and none of the others do).
The other specifics is just white noise. I want a JP so bad...lol

I'm not sure why you think cleaning a piston gun is faster or easier. Based on my experience with my SIG MCX I can tell you it takes significant time to clean out the gas block which I do after every range trip. It may be different from other piston driven rifles but I find my gas block gets very tight and difficult to change settings if I don't keep it very clean. I bought it because I thought it would be easy to clean after running suppressed but found It didn't really save me any time or effort. My next purchase was DI.
Now that being said, cleaning the gas block on an AK is imho, completely unnecessary!

Messed around with the Scar 20s. It’s pretty nice. Heavier tho. Comes stock with the upgraded Super Scar trigger
I'll second that not just b/c I shoot one in the AK round, but my buddy has a full compliment of them across 308/6.5/x39/300/5.56 and I've shot the 308 quite a bit. It's pretty funny so many times after someone comes out to thermal with us they end up buying a PWS soon after. The lease is full of them now they get hunted hard and all work like butter. I have to say though there is a REPR, 2 SCARs and a Sig 716 out there too and they all run great.

I know the Sig and PWS often get looked past in lieu of other offerings. Not sure why.
Neither am I, but I do like the price point of PWS where it is so if that means being on the outside I'm ok with that!
I think it really comes down to the large quantity of options available in the 308 category these days. It can get confusing when trying to narrow options, so people tend to go with the safe and more popular items.... We can thank the internet for this. It used to be that average shooters had one or two options in a local store and they would select from those options. Now everyone gets to go online and see what the current big name trends are and throw their money at it.
I haven't been really into or messed with gas guns for five or six years, and maybe the technology has overcome it, but to me "piston" and precision don't go together. It's been my experience that my most accurate gas guns are all direct impingement, and that the advantage of piston is ONLY that they don't get as dirty as fast, and you can keep shooting without cleaning for a lot longer before it starts to malfunction. Seems like all the piston guns I've owned and shot were disappointing in precision, where as some of the direct impingement rifles were sub moa consistently. IF you care about such things...
