Rifle Scopes Looking for input. Mk6 leupold 3-18

Wonder what folks experience has been with this scope (mk6 3-18 non illum. Short turret version)

I had one with B52 turrets a while
ago but never really put it through its paces so can't speak for return to zero and or turret repeat ability.

I want to say that they general consensus is that many (okay me and very few) want to like this scope, but it just disappoints, or leaves something to be wanted. I would buy it at a price point much less than where this scope is selling. I am one of the few on this forum, who likes Leupold. Most (here) will tell you that they have just failed to innovate in the last few years. Even the Mk8 leaves me wincing. The Mk8 is highly regarded for its improved optics (finally Leupold caught up with the pack). But, the Mk8 is no $3k scope. The design is lacking, even if the functionality and glass are great.

I use a lot of Mk4 scopes, in my clone / mil-spec builds, and like Leupold, because, to me, even their most basic scopes are quality. Leupold is the Marriott of scopes. You will not find a bad Leupold, just as you will not find a bad Marriott hotel. You will also not find a 5-Star Marriott, unless you move to the Ritz Carlton brand. Many other great scopes, like Vortex, have a lower-end offering that is not fit for consumption.

I find the Mk6 as a Mk4 with improved ergonomics and design. The 3-18 is nicely placed in that mid-range magnification that needs good scopes, and there are good reticle options. But, does the Mk6 compete with Steiner or Althon or NF or even Bushnell? Maybe or probably, but they have priced the scope to comptete with S&B. Bring the street price down to $1,400, and it is a buy.

I too am a huge leupold fan. They are expensive, but you are getting quality and won't be disappointed. I've seen some leupolds take a serious beating and keep on going. Is the mark 6 worth the price, I would say no, but it does fill a niche. It should definitely be priced in the mid to high 1500 mark. I have one and love it. I would say if you can find a used one for a good price, you would be happy.

The MK6 is a good scope but it's price point is just too high for the reasons already stated. I would choose the NF ATACR F1 4-16x42 all day long over the mk6. The NF just has so many more options for just a little more $.

FYI, Euro Optic has a demo for $1,700'ish on this scope, with Mil-Dot. If it were Tremor 3, that would be a bargain, but if you like mil dot and like the scope, that is not a bad price.

What's up with that? Yesterday, someone posted a Mk8 for $2,200. I have never known Midway to be the low cost leader in scopes.

I have one on my REPR, I think it's a beautiful scope. I HATE the auto locking turrets they feel mushy, so mines at Leupold right now getting them switched out to the m5c2 or whatever low pro turrets. Also the reticle is canted to the left 10-15* so they are supposed to be fixing that too. Buy one used but not at the $2k+ they ask. It's a great scope for an AR, but they ain't the only game in town anymore, their is lots of great, even better options like NF, Bushnell, Steiner, etc. So choose wisely!

I like my mk6. I also have the NF ATACR 4-16. both are great scopes. the glass is prob just a bit better on the NF, but both are very good. I think where leupold hit it out of the park is in the physical size of the scope, mag range, and weight. for a large frame AR or shorter bolt gun where you are trying to keep weight down, the NF is a 30 oz scope, with limited mag range. Its hard to find another scope in that price range (just under $2000) that will compete. most are either a good bit heavier or with a much more limited mag range. so, for an AR or lighter weight long range hunting rig, smaller sniper rifle (kinda what this was designed for), the mk6 performs very well.

I did have the "B" turrets, which weren't bad, but were kinda tall. I never had any tracking issues with them over a couple of rifles. I did send it in and have it swapped out for the "C" turrets, which I like a lot better. just a lower profile and fit better with the rifle its on. I also really liked the capped windage, as I hold for wind and like the protection against it getting bumped in the field

I had mine switched and it was about $150 at the time. The B style targets are very mushy and have about .1 mil of slop, which sometimes makes it hard to tell how much you've dialed. The C turret is very crisp. Overall I like the scope. Low pro locking turret with zero stop and capped windage are nice. Also the parallax has a set screw so you can get it set parallax free at 100 and lock it in. A nice feature I wish other scopes would incorporate because they never seem to get it right.

Leupold doesn't even list H58 as an available option on the Mk6 anymore, so that's really what I mean. Leupold is no longer offering this reticle in this scope, boom closeouts/discontinued items.

I've had several Mk6, just sold one. One had tracking issues which leupold fixed quickly, the other two have never had issues at all. Great physical size and weight.

This all really good input. Thanks a ton!! As an FYI, I am looking to put this on a 6.5 creedmoor with a 3b barrel. built on a model 70. The plan is to hunt with it on occasion. It is heavier than my lightweight hunting rigs but not as heavy as a tactical PRS type rig. One of these with C turrets might fit the bill nicely.
