Im trying to find some help and wasn't sure where to post. I just got a Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 and I was trying to find a drop in bottem metal so i can convert it from hinged floor plate to a Detachable Magazine. can anyone help point me in the right direction. Thanks

Welcome to the Hide!

Here is a link to a thread that is quite full of options for your 700.

link

( also this should be posted in the bolt action thread )

Another thing that works good is the Snipers Hide search engine located in the lower right of the page. Just about anything you type in there it will find a thread that was already started on the subject.

Good luck, and check the link. I think you will find your answer there.

I've looked at them and this would require no mod to the standard remington stock?? just to make sure im clear

Re: looking for Rem 700 Detachable Magazine drop in

I wouldn't buy a drop in, it really limits the OAL and you have very limited mag choices. I managed to get one of HateCA's DBMs and I get an incredible amount of positive feedback by those who see it. I don't know if he made anymore than that prototype run I bought from but you should look into it or at least some other AICS compatible system.

Re: looking for Rem 700 Detachable Magazine drop in

The HS will drop in, but mags are expensive and I have had customers order DBM from me to get rid of the HS setups they had.

So they can be problematic(even had a former HS employee call me for my DBM cause he hated the HS setup).

My DBM does require inletting but I offer inletting for $60 shipped. Im having a group buy now too so jump on in, you wont be dissapointed

Re: looking for Rem 700 Detachable Magazine drop in

I got in on Jeff's last group buy and had him do the inletting in my stock.
The CDI bottom metal is first-class, the price was right, and the inletting was perfect.
I had my stock back in a little over a week.

Thanks again Jeff!

Correct, no mods.

Re: looking for Rem 700 Detachable Magazine drop in

You may pay a little more for inletting, but will be happier with the final product and the availability of the AICS mags. JMHO, but I wouldn't look at that option to cut costs.

Re: looking for Rem 700 Detachable Magazine drop in

Thanks for all the help guys. If only things at work were a little different I wouldn't have the need to buy my own rifle and spend the money to get it right, they would. But I guess this way I know I'll get what I want and I can always take it with me if I ever left. Thank again for the input.

Now comes the hard part... making the final decision then parting with more money and my new best friend for a while. At least they say that Absence makes the heart fonder.

Re: looking for Rem 700 Detachable Magazine drop in

+1 for CDI. as Jeff said... "You won't be disappointed" An all around good deal on a quality product with quick turn araound. I'm pleased with mine.

Re: looking for Rem 700 Detachable Magazine drop in

Another slightly off topic question (still related though). How difficult is it to learn the inletting process and what would a good practice medium be cause i know step one is to practice all i can? I would like to hone my skills in smithing to make needed mods such as for a DBM.

Re: looking for Rem 700 Detachable Magazine drop in

I just got done doing the stiller DBM in my model 700. it wasn't terribly hard. the worst part was taking metal off the bedding block in the front of the magazine cutout. I did how ever make a booboo, in that i didn't notice that i took a little too much material off the back corners of the cut out and it is noticeable. the other thing is with an hs precision stock the overhang that they put on there as a mag well leaves about a tenth inch gap, which i believe partly comes from the stock shape. other than that, I really like it. It also feeds my really long reloads (2.885") and does it well. now to take it out to the range, and see if my POI changed any from mounting a different bottom metal, I dont really think it will, i torqued the screws to the same poundage as before

Re: looking for Rem 700 Detachable Magazine drop in

IMHO, even on an HS stock, HS bottom metal is not 'drop in'. I had to do some widening of the opning on the bottom of the stock, as well as open up the aluminum bedding block. Doable, but not 'drop in'.
I just upgraded to Seekins DBM, so I'm selling my HS bottom metal with two five-round and two ten-round mags.... $350. Disclaimer: Mag marked "2" will need tweaking to feed better.
PM if you're interested, I'm about to post a "For Sale".

Re: looking for Rem 700 Detachable Magazine drop in

well said 1911, this one is marketed as minor fitting...in some spots it was closer to major, but the big thing is the tangs on the end of the metal are fitted perfectly for a standard bdl cut. the rest of it, requires a bit of work (read 4 hours to fit decently).

now for the update as to how it did at the range. it for sure will feed a round all the way out to 2.875", 2.880 is just a hair too long. POI did shift, but that was due to me taking it out of the stock. the 100 yard line was too crowded so i took a trip to 200 and went to town, my rough guess was that it shifted up and left by one moa a piece (the metal was perfectly straight and level in the cut out), but that was with a 15mph wind from the right. so hopefully the wind will kind of let up next week and we will see for sure. but first impressions, i like it.
