ok...

newb question time again.

does it matter what low profile gas block to use?

other than like, size to fit under your free float?

im starting my build soon and i think im going to free float so i can have maximium rail space way out to my flash hider for my iron sights.

i figure with a 16" barrel i want my sights to be spaced as far as possible.

so... any low profile gas block? or is there a difference from one to another?

Re: low profile gas block

I have used the Noveske/VLTOR low profile blocks with great success. They are very high quality, come in both set screw and clamp-on styles, and they'll work under any freefloat handguard on the market.

Re: low profile gas block

awesome,

i sort of like the ground down FSB set up, seems pretty small, wonder if i can get a FSB somewhere for 20 bucks or so and then just grind it.

thanks for the help!

stay tuned for the build... think its gonna be nice and different than the usual!

Just dont buy one that needs to be pinned if your barrel isnt drilled for pins..

That YHM lo-pro for 24.95 shipped is a better looking block than a shaved down one,IMO..

Re: low profile gas block

Daniel Defense M4 12.0" Rail w/ Daniel Defense Low Profile Gas Block works very well together.

I have that setup on a 6.5 Grendel build.

The Vltor low profile gas block (set screw type not the bolt on style) should fit under most FF handgaurds.

Re: low profile gas block

I use a clamp-on any chance I can. (DD, JP, Vltor) I've seen it said that clamping puts less stress on the barrel but I doubt anyone is going to be able to measure that claim. But in any case, I like the Daniel defense gas block. It is crazy slim and works with any DD Rail and alot of the other tubular inside diameter rails and forends. I don't know about Larue or Vltor VIS and such as they dont have much bottom clearance. Probably go with an excellent Vltor, Larue, or PRI gas block in those cases. Mostly it is about clearance compatibility and aethetic appeal for the user (if you care about such things).

Re: low profile gas block

best would be to get the lowest one you can find. badger ord makes a ultra low gas block. its about 70bucks but well worth the price. brownells.com

i did have to file down my gasblock because i bought a thick utg rail system.

sometimes you have to tinker to get the right fit.

Re: low profile gas block

went with YHM

everything worked out fine... cept the damn roll pin taking forever to go in due to some crappy machining on this gas tube.

thanks!

pics will follow at some point when its all done!
