Hello guys,

I’m new here. Been mostly the PCC/PDW guy my self with a few AR15 and Bullpup here and there.

Been having my 16” LWRC REPR chambered in .308 for a while but never really use it. Original planned for mid to LR but since I’m using SCAR 20S and just picked up the Fix 6.5CM I’m thinking of turning the REPR into short mid range setup with the new Vortex 1-10x.

Any reason for me not to go that route?

thanks again, I’ve been reading up on the forums with tons of info. Appreciate all the work everyone put into.

I just picked up a 16” REPR yesterday on one of those “this is too good to pass up” deals. It has an Eotech Vudu 1-6 SR2 on it which seems pretty nice, guess time will tell. I’ve also got a gen2 Razor 1-6 non-e and while the eye box seems better on the Vortex, the vudu is way lighter and glass seems just as good if not better. I really like the reticle on the Vudu since on 1x it’s the same as my EXPS3.

Again these are first impressions- hopefully somebody with more experience will chime in.
Here’s an obligatory pic to maybe get the ball rolling - we all like gun pics huh?

I love the Vortex HD-III 1-10x scope. But you can get a lower power scope and not wait 4 months and spend $2,000. 16" .308 gas gun... Probably does not have the recoil issues of a Scar 17, but still, I would look at something like an Elcan 1.5/6x if you want tactical and different (but I just blew your budget), or an NX8 1-8x or Vortex HD-III 1-6x. Or, go off the grid and the get Tango6 1-6x. That is the same scope as the Vortex 1-6x (so I am told by the Army who tested it) and made in the same factory, and you save a little and have a great scope.

16" 7.62 gas gun: think about recoil, so you need a quality built scope. Think about range, and you do not need 10x. Unless you want 10x. Hell, go for the ATACR 4-16x if you really want range and durability. :cool:

Actually I was thinking 4-16 ATACR but wasn’t sure if that’d be considered overkill on this gun as I’ll probably shoot steel inside 600 yd and the occasional daytime hog. I put a 4-14 SHV on just to test accuracy and it looks pretty huge on it, but don’t think an ATACR is quite as long

@fanninland

Congrats on the grab. She's a beaut. I also have the Vudu 1-6 that's currently sitting on the LWRC M6A2 at the moment. I tried it on the REPR and kinda feel like I could use 8x.

@longshot2000

Thanks for the helpful advice. It really helps a lot. I originally want a 3-18 on the REPR. But When I see Vortex's new gen III, I thought it'd be a good fit for the REPR with the color and more compact/smaller footprint. I'm a bit torn. I'm getting used to LVPO and I'm getting to like it more vs tradition Redot.

Do u think the new Vortex Gen III will ever come down a bit? Honestly, 1500-1600 would be a sweet spot IMO.

I dont have hands on the vortex 1-10, but if you're deciding on what optic, the nf nx8 1-8 is very much in that price range, weighs a lot less, and from what I hear has a slightly more forgiving eyebox. With the popularity of the vortex I dont think you can go wrong, especially if you're looking for that extra magnification.

Ive got a thread a few posts up where some people were comparing the NX8 to the Razor... seems to be a pretty unanimous decision that the NX8 has a LESS forgiving eyebox than the NX8

Perhaps you meant less forgiving than the Razor?

The Razor 1-6x and the ATACR 1-8x have very forgiving eyeboxes. I liken them to two-eye open red dots in 1x mode. ATACR is better at this, but the HD-II on the 1-6x is pretty darn good. The 1-10x Gen III HD gets a little less than the 1-6x, but all three do a good job.

The NX8 1-8x is a true rifle scope, and does not have that dual capability as a red dot / magnified scope. NX8 has the advantage of less weight, and we sell a good number to law enforcement SWAT snipers, where they are staying on target in relatively close distances. If you running through the woods, and need fast target aquisition, the NX8 is much less suited, just like 90% of scopes are less suited for tactical point and shoot. The latter is where the ATACR and the Razor HD shine.

Yeah, I said the NX8 has a less forgiving eyebox than the Razor. I think we are definitely in agreement lol
