Long time lurker first time poster.

I've been looking at getting a LPVO for a 16" AR. My current AR has a Trijicon MRO green which I really like, but it hasn't played well with any of the magnifiers I've tried/borrowed.

I borrowed a friend's Aimpoint T2 and definitely like the green better. Maybe because it's just what I'm used to.

I'm trying to decide between a TR24 green triangle, or the p4xi. Max I would like to spend is $700ish. Max distance is around 300 yards, rifle will see a lot of time around the farm as a truck gun, some evening coyote work.

The lightweight, absence of batteries and green illumination of the TR24 has me leaning in that direction. Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask others opinions. I'm open to other options as well.

Thanks,

Are you wanting to run a combo?
Stand alone LPVO offset dot?
Or dot with magnifier??????? Icky icky no likey

No combo, just the LPVO. Probably a QD mount and some backup irons, I've got an upper with a Troy Alpha rail with built-in flip up front sight that is probably going on this build. This is going on a new rifle. Going to keep the MRO on it's current rifle.

I tried the dot with magnifier, even with the MRO not wanting to play nice with the ones I borrowed to try, it's a clunky setup that I didn't like anyway.

The P4xi is a super impressive optic in that $500-$600 used range. Steiner’s warranty is good enough to buy used with confidence in my opinion.
Never tried the trij. But I did have a 1-6 credo for a short period of time that was a solid optic. I just didn’t like how visible the illum was from the target’s POV. Also—it was only daylight visible. Not daylight bright like the P4xi.

Leupold VX Freedom AR 1.5-4 with FireDot illum and P5 dial is an excellent combo for your price range. Very underrated optic because all the bro's want the new Vortex, etc, etc. I have the previous version which was the Mark AR Mod 1 with SPR reticle and P5 dial. Easy button to zero at 100, then use the dial to the appropriate distance, and you get hits all day long on steel with either 55 or 62gr ammo.

There’s a few threads on this already. Here’s one. You can search them.

I like the Trijicon Accupoint TR24G. It’s in your price range, clean glass, and the tritium/fiber optic illumination is nice. I run one on a 12.5” AR and another on a steyr scout rifle. I’d buy a third one if I had the cash.

I have a couple of the Trijicon Accupoint TR24R (red triangle) scopes that I run on 14.5 and 12.5 Sig 516's. I really like them for what I use them for. No plans to shoot beyond 300 yds., and the ability to easily use as a RDS on 1x when needed. The triangle is blazingly bright and at night the tritium is plenty visible. Good glass and well built. No experience with the Steiner but I can definitely recommend the TR24.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

A friend of mine brought over a 14.5" AR that he borrowed with a green triangle TR25, and his 16" with a Razor HD GEN II, which I've previously spent some time behind. I put about 60 rounds through each one this am.

I gotta say after getting behind both the TR25 felt pretty damn good. Not having a lot of experience with LVPO's on an AR I could definitely tell a difference between the weight of the Razor and the TR25. My friend, who is thinking about upgrading his Razor to the E, said he might look into the TR25. I'm thinking I might have to save up my pennies and grab a 1-6 TR25 myself.

Neither one of us had problems hitting 12x12" steel at 300 yards, and inside of 50 yards was about the same with either. To me, again, the lighter weight TR25 was more comfortable vs. the heavier Razor, but I'm also used to shooting lightweight red dot on my AR.

Anyone have experience with both the Trijicon's can comment on whether the upgrade to the 1-6 is worth the extras $250ish and 5oz that come with it? Glass quality?

Thanks again,
ndp

As I posted previously, I have a couple of the TR24's, and highly recommend them. But everything that I have read and/or viewed on video seems to confirm that the TR25 is a definite upgrade, if you don't mind spending the $. Since weight is a factor, remember that the TR25 does weight approximately 5 ounces more than the TR24. If you can swing the cash, I would go for the TR25.
