It was a beautiful day at the range. Lying prone behind my LR 308 with collapsible stock, my non-firing hand nestled under the rear of the stock lining me up on steel at 300 yards, I dropped the hammer on 42 grains of Varget to send the 180 SST and immediately got bit hard on the nose by the Viper!
Normally I see the quick white flash through the scope when the shot fires, but this time I saw black and red followed by stars. Obviously, I had part of my hand on the stock release resulting in Magnum recoil.
My shooting buddy, an EMT, got all freaky asking me if I was OK.I didn't know how badly was bleeding. Amazingly, after it happened, the only thing I noticed was the click of the trigger on reset, that's the follow through I learned from you guys. Thank you all, by the way.
Next day I ordered a Magpul ACS for it. A bitch to get on, but man, what a difference. I destroyed the tips of the 2 included dummy rounds while following the installation directions, then did it my way with a small flat screwdriver and it went right on.
The ACS locks up tight with no wiggle. With the protected release I don't have to worry about this happening again.
