I am planning to use this configuration for deer hunting this year. I am wanting to zero for a hundred yards but the scope only has a maximum of 4 power, I am not able to get a very tight group so I was hoping someone could give me a good proven method that will save me some ammo down range.6.8 ammo is about a dollar or so a round. I am familiar with the 300 yard military method, but with the sbr I want to have a little tighter group of tolerances. Note: I am not able to make any shots further than 300 to 400 yards, if you are concerned about the SBR.

You can only use a 5 round mag in GA? That is weak. In ND i can use as big of a mag as I want to kill one deer. Yet I can only have 3 shotgun shells in my gun at a time when I can kill 15 dove a day... makes sense. If that is what you want to use it sounds like a good hunting set up to me.
I have a 4x scope on my LWRC 6.8 that I can shoot under 2 moa (even in extreme wind I found out today).
Use targets similar to these that you can line the crosshairs up with. http://www.scheelssports.com/webapp/wcs/...amp;categoryId=

Also put it on a bipod or front rest and get a sand bag for the rear end of the gun.

I am in the process of putting together a SBR in 300 Whisper on an M4 platform. I plan on using a simple 4X scope to develop a load and then a drop table out to 200-300 yds. Once I have the amount of drop, I will try to match that up with one of the many ballistic reticles on the market today. It wouldn't have to be exact, just close. Between those made for rifles, shotgun slugs and black powder rifles, I would think there is one that will match up well.

Re: the mag issue. I'm not sure what the laws are in GA, but in AZ the law revolves around capacity and not the magazine itself. For example, a shotgun may have the capacity for 5 rounds in the tube, but if the tube is plugged to accept no more two rounds you are gtg. Same with an AR15/M4. I use a 20 round clip with a wooden plug inside the spring so that it will hold not more than 5 rounds. No big deal, but check with your Game & Fish first.

Using a 4 power scope is not bad at 100 yards to zero with. I have a Leupold CQT 1 x3 that I zero with at 100 and get decent groups, 1.5 MOA with a 16" 223. I guess the question is what were the groups? Are you being realistic as to the effectiveness of a 10" barrel for a 6.8mm. Is 2" or 3" good enough or are you looking for a 1" and below. What kind of target are you shooting at? Big-small...my method is to shoot at as small as a point of the aim that I can see at 100 and that helps me tighten up the groups.

Nope... You can run as big as you want.

My thinking, at this point, is to shoot @ 25 and get the windage just right, then take it out to a 100. I would accept a 2" group with the weak 4x trijicon. Mag capacity is not the issue. Also, 6.8 round has great performances out of a short barrel configuration. Any other advice would be appreciated.

I got a whole bunch of hunting 5-rd 6.8 mags. Do you like the short 10rd boxes or the tacticool 30rd boxes that are permanently modified to only fit 5 rounds? C Products and PRi make mags..

Re: LWRC 10.5 SBR 6.8 with Trijicon and doc optic

I only roll with a 5rounder in mine to hunt. I dont like that extra weight. Plus a 30rd mag is horrible long if you go prone.

I hunt coyote with a 16" LWRC. Been doing well so far.

Not sure if you checked, but does GA have a regulation pertaining to minimum barrel length? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that where I hunt (WI) for whitetail deer, there is a 16" minimum barrel requirement on a rifle and an overall weapon length of 26". I could be wrong but you may want to double check before you plan on a 10.5" barrel for hunting purposes.
