I have a friend looking to buy a new piston semi auto AR-15. He's narrowed the search down to LWRC or Patriot Arms and ask me which I thought he should pick, and why. I've heard good things about both companies, but don't have any personal knowledge about their products. So I thought I'd ask for input from knowledgeable Hide members. I suspect it's going to be a 'flip a coin' deal.

Thanks for you time.

Re: LWRC or Patriot Arms

I assume you mean Patriot Ordnance Factory, not Patriot Arms, correct? The former is the chief competitor of LWRC in piston rifles while the latter is the old name for APA, which makes a precision DI AR-10. There's a lot of varying opinions on the LWRC REPR and the POF 308. I've only shot a POF 308 and I was pretty impressed with it.

Re: LWRC or Patriot Arms

I own 3 LWRC's (2 M6A2's and a REPR) and one POF P-308. The 2 M6A2's have been 100% free of any failures. They have taken all the crap ammo that I have thrown at them. They are not precision rifles. I would say with the right ammo, they are 1.5 moa guns. The REPR hasn't worked for me- LWRC is sending me a new upper. I must have a lemon. Everyone else seems to love theirs. All of my customer service dealings with them have been great. The POF is a precision rifle. I don't think that I will have a problem getting 1/2" groups. (I have only shot it once in really crappy conditions. High wind, cold, over caffeinated shooter. No probs getting 3/4" groups.) I did have a weird issue with the rail. It seems that it was installed wrong and wasn't quite parallel to the barrel. I think this caused me to need 14 mils of adjustment to get a 100yd zero. I think that I have fixed it- I'll see on sat. With the shot show going on, I was left to my own devices.
