M1 Garand - First Trip to Range

Well I bought a CMP Special Grade in September as a proviso that it would be a Christmas present... Those that are married know where I'm coming from here

Anyway, here's a few pics at the range and a few targets. She performed beautifully and I can't wait to get out more. I checked windage at 25, 50 and 100 yards and had it shooting in a total of about 5 shots. It's wearing a DGR stock. Quite a beauty - Love shooting it

No safe queens in my arsenal....

100 yard shooting - includes the zeroing shots as well

100 yard groups - 4 shots each

200 yards - 1st and only group I shot at 200

All shots were with HXP in Aggressive Engineering clips (purchased from Fulton Armory). Not a single malfunction and the rifle ran like a top. Very Merry Christmas indeed!

You didn't just buy a rifle, you bought a piece of American history. Congrats.

Every red blooded American should have a Garand.

You should attend a CMP GSM Clinic and then start shooting Garand Matches. The old work horses deserve a chance to show us they still have it in them.

Yep, I did a clinic in October. We shot club rifles. I had way too much fun

I ordered e CMP Special to get a WWII receiver. Mine happens to be a 1.4 mil SA. Puts mfg date around March 1943. Both my grandfathers served from around 42/43 to the end of the war. One in Europe and one in the Pacific. If these rifles could talk...

Man,..I've used that old "early Christmast present" bit a little too much,..my wife just gives me the look. You guys what I mean when I say "the look".

Great looking rig. I love my M1, it just looks and feels like a real rifle should,..so much history.

A special grade has a new barrel, so yes they are shooters.

They don't have to be new barrels to be shooters. I got mine in the early 80s from DCM. Since, I've shoot the crap out of it. I took it to sniper schools using the C/Ds and shot it more then once until sap was boiling out of the stock.

I forget what the ME and Chamber gages said, but it should be wore out.

I shot this last fall @ 100 yards, setting rapid.

They are to be cherished! My first trip to the range I didn't realize the gas cylinder was a little wobbly, which of course affects the front sight.

You will really enjoy yours. I have 3 at my house from the CMP and all shoot well. Now go get yourself some surplus tracers and really have some fun.

49.5 Varget and CCI BR2 in LC brass and 168 SMK from my Garand @ 100. I've shot this load to over 1K with silly accuracy. I think I'll keep her!

Awesome setup. I have one too, a gift form a relative. Went out with him in the woods for a walk-and-shoot. Those get heavy really quickly. I feel for the poor soldiers who had to lug those around. Nice groupings!
