Recently my NM 14 started pintching the brass in between the op rod and the outside edge of the breech face.It is because i have an ARMS 18 mount on it.Is their a way to tune the extractor to throw the brass out instead of up into the mount?

Re: M14 ejector tuning?

Remove coils off the ejector spring (not the extractor spring). Basically you'll have to go to the range, shoot it, clip a coil, shoot it, clip a little more, shoot it more, until you get it just right. Keep the flat end on the ejector and the clipped end down inside the bolt. You may want to get a spare ejector spring to have on hand just in case you cut too much.

People who do this usually end up with good results.

Re: M14 ejector tuning?

Any chance the ejector is worn or you have a M1 Garand ejector installed? For grins and giggles, first try swapping out the ejector itself with a new M14 ejector. If that doesn't help, trim the ejector spring as discussed above.

The M1 ejector has a single beveled surface on its forward end. The ejector for the M14 was improved by creating two beveled surfaces on the forward end. This minor change resulted in a much more consistent ejection path for spent cartridge cases.
