M14/M1A dudes

Per the 23 Aug. Newsletter, CMP is now selling M14 parts kits, everything excluding the barrel, bolt, and action at their e-store.

This is a new listing and hasn't been posted on the E-store as of this writing, check tomorrow or the next day.

Price is $600 per kit plus $22.95 S&H per kit. These are USGI parts.

Thanks, I'm building one from an Orion7 kit. Fulton Armory receiver, Krieger heavy barrel, Boyds laminated stock and the rest USGI parts.

$600 plus shipping seems a bit pricey for not having a barrel or bolt included. Your only other expensive piece really is the Op rod and Gas cylinder, and if those are worn then you kind of spent your money on nothing.... Just sayin'.

No bolt is a deal-breaker for me.

My parts kit was something like $325 and included a USGI barrel. Literally everything except the receiver and magazines.

But $325 back then bought a lot more than it does now. Ruger Mini-14s were just hitting $400, IIRC.

Without a working barrel & bolt it's parts and not a "part's kit". The barrel is easy and bolts have gone way up in price which make it not a bargain.

I heard these kits came from drill rifles, which had the barrel and bolt welded to make them drill rifles.

No barrel and particularly no bolt makes it not a deal to me. Drill rifle makes sense given the no bolt & no barrel.

I've seen a few of those.

Cryin' shame, it was.

At least when they butchered the M1 Garands, they just welded INSIDE the chamber and left the bolts alone...

USGI bolts and trigger groups are the hard to find items.

New - as good as or better than USGI op rods, complete gas systems, barrels,
front & rear sights and assorted small parts are available from SEI and others.
