New lot of FGMM 168, old white box stuff I bought at the Honey Hole with a police department address on the box….500 rds for $150…..the good old days.

First three shots high I had to dial down after the second confirmed it was high.

This was the backer I had todays center on, two range trips, 40 rounds. 10 points dropped and those lost while dialing in sights for the ammo/conditions.

    Love this rifle.

I used to love to shoot my M1a with iron sites. My 1st barrel was USGI chrome lined and it liked FGMM168's and Federal 150gr Nosler ballistic tips. It would group like your targets above. Then a funny thing happened when I hit my 40's and darn if that front site did not just up and disappear. Had to go with a scope. Later had the rifle turned into a NM with medium weight barrel. Still likes the FGGM 168's but the 150 Nosler's now are not producing decent accuracy any more.

Still one of my favorite rifles.

I had it rebuilt by GA Precision in 2007 with all GI parts and a Barnett medium weight barrel. It remains unfired since
Me thinks you should re-acquaint yourself with that old M1A...

I have a very early SAI M1A standard rifle w/ standard weight barrel (15k serial range, from 1981), and I am tempted to take it to the CMP Eastern Games and try it in a Modern Military match, just for grins.. (It weighs 8 lbs 15 ozs, so it's just under the 9 lb weight limit). I am not going to come close to winning a gold (or silver) medal in such a match, but it might be fun to try it a 200 yards w/ iron sights. I hand-painted the stock and handguard over this winter in a Vietnam era pattern.

...and here it is with a vintage 1967ish Army Weapons Command (AWC) scope mount and old 2.2X M84 scope. Replica of an improvised M14 sniper.

I have a 014xxx too. I found it 5 years ago locally for $1200 with all these goodies (ammo too). It's a vintage Supermatch M1A from 1981, and probably one of the two best deals I have found re M1As over the years. The previous owner bought in 1992 and it was his back-up match rifle that he didn't really use (compared to his lugged competition M1A). The barrel's throat erosion was/is only 1, so I bought it, as I like these early M1As for some reason.

Anyhow, you should use that old SAI from time to time...esp with that new match barrel.

    Love this rifle.
Third picture almost looks like the spotting scope is strapped to the top of the rifle.

I’ve been shooting this one since I was a kid. My Dad bought it when they were $450. I had it rebuilt by GA Precision in 2007 with all GI parts and a Barnett medium weight barrel. It remains unfired since…😬View attachment 8106212
Mine has a Serial number in the 71k range.

Don’t know it’s history other than that it was on the rack when I went to the gun store to buy something else.

Seems to be all HI except the SAInc receiver.

Barrel is TRW and for that it seems I should be grateful.

Never mind. Saw your later post.

Supermatch. Bought this directly from Springfield Armory on Vendor's Row. Still has a few layers of tape and a new zip tie from competing. Got a lot of funny looks at ORPA matches as everyone was running AR's and look at this dinosaur rifle! I was out for blood and was there to collect my points. Shot really well that day and never heard anymore chatter after that....put about 4lbs. of lead in the butt stock, and if you really want to look like a stud, run 125's at the short line for a cupcake type recoil..... :ROFLMAO:
