M40 feed rail

What was the purpose of the left side feed rail being cut back on the Original M40?
Anyone have a picture of what it looks like?
I just found out on the facebook page it was cut back due to rounds not going into the magazine box properly.

I suppose you are talking about the USMC stripped cut? The thought was that a Marine could use a stripper clip from M80 ball ammo and load from the top. I have not heard any real stories of this happening.

No . I’m told that the left side bolt feed rail was modified . That’s why I asked.
Maybe I misunderstood but that is what I understand.
