I have a stock that was inletted for Remington BDL bottom metal and would like to replace it with the Winchester bottom metal like on the A1s. Could this be done or is the BDL bigger and the stock can't be modified?

Re: M40A1 bottom metal?

The Winchester 2 piece bottom metal has a bigger footprint than a BDL bottom metal. You will have to do additional inletting and shorten the floor plate to make it fit.
If you're after the look of the original and not trying to be 100% correct, you can use the Williams old style bottom metal, it looks like the Winchester 2 piece but is one piece and still has a larger footprint than a BDL.Contact member TacticalStocks here, he was selling the old style bottom metal for pretty good prices.Good guy to do business with.

Re: M40A1 bottom metal?

Thanks, that is just what I needed to know. My M40A1 is out in Fontana and I haven't had a chance to meassure it. I have a set of Winchester bottom metal so it will be off to the gunsmith soon.
