I’m putting a m40a1 together on a repro smear and was curious if who knows the screw sizes needed for the m70 bottom metal? I’m trying ti and source screws but I don’t know the thread pitch, length etc.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time combing the older m40a1 build threads and most the builders people used have retired. I’d like to have this coated in black oxide. Any suggestions who to send this off to when the time comes?

GunBlack can do some smithing services or will sub it out.

Sent my shotty barrel to have it threaded for chokes.

Steve is a milsurp shooter but I’m not sure if he is up on clones.

He did the parkerizing on both of these.

This was pretty much a refinish of a Wingmaster. I had screw in chokes installed in the barrel and I had to cut a much longer donor down. Gunblack had the barrel work done.

LRI did the build, sent it to GunBlack at my request for Park. Than Steve sent it back to LRI for final assembly. I did the wood finish.

If using the correct Allen head screws, with the right stock and bottom metal correctly modified the overall length of the screws (counting the head) should be right around 1.500" for the front and 1.850" for the rear. It will vary slightly as they are cut to fit, but they should be very close to those numbers.
