Hey guys, I remember someone on here having a 40x built into a M40A1 stock, totally bad-ass looking rifle to go with his A1. Does anyone remember where that thread was, or who it is? I would like to talk to them about doing something very similar myself, complete with a MST-100, and wanted to see how they went about making it happen. Thanks for any help you can provide fellas.

Are you referring to this one?

The top rifle is the Eddie Ryan fund raiser built at Quantico and auctioned off here on The Hide back in 09. The 40X is single shot, used the old barrel, just had my smith re-chamber it and cut down to length. I used the Redfield bottom feed rings and mount. I have a couple USO one piece mount/rings set up for stripper clip guide, could have used one of them, but the 40X does not have clip slot, and I did not want to mill the clip slot.

That's it right there bro, thank you!

I'm kicking the idea back and forth of doing the same or having another A1 built. I have a USMC 40x, was thinking of pulling the barrel in lieu of one in proper contour and length, and bedding it into a McM stock. That way I could put the take-offs away safe and sound and maintain the capacity to return it to original form if I want but the receiver finish would be a decision point for me. I wouldn't mess with cutting a slot either, and I like the Redfield setup you went with. Sourcing the stock and accessories may be an issue but I'm not worried about a return stock, just the bottom metal. I wouldn't turn up my nose to one if someone is selling though.

The other side of me says find another 40x and hack the shit out of it. Hmm...

The return of the MST-100s have me itching for something special. I already have an A1, but I don't have a Quantico built A1. First world problems!

It needs some little bit of work to finish but it's all there. That scope is even a good acquisition as Second Recon used 6 of those T10's on there M40a1's.

I have a few 40x rifles that look like M40A1 rifles myself. It doesn't have a return stock. I wasn't made by PWS. I doesn't wear an Unertl or USO but this dog hunts. The Remington 40X .22lr USMC Property with the Weaver T10 sold for $3,400.00.

The M40 style wood stock sold for $1,530.00.

The green Redfield scoped M40A1 trainer is sitting here for my personal use. I will wear a Unertl or USO 10x on day. I even have a correct Unertl mount.

Hey Sir,

Glad to see your presence here. You have nice stuff and have been very helpful to me with your knowledge. A great guy to do business with should anyone want to conduct a transaction.

I believe your pics have solved a recent question of discussion on the M40A1 build thread. A few USMC that carried the M40A1 mentioned not using the M1907 sling at all but instead using 550 cord off the front sling loop as a sort of "sling" they would wrap around their wrist. I, along with others, did not understand exactly what was being described. Im guessing that 550 cord on your rifles is the expedient sling/drag you used in the field?

Look at the 550 cord on the forward sling swivels in the photo. All you do is slide your hand through the 550 cord loop and grab it. This also works great for shooting off of irregular items like the side of a tree. Some wrist straps are made nicer than others with monkey's fist and all other type of thinks. I'm just too dumb to make all that stuff. The 550 cord is awesome for carrying because leather gets wet and slippery and so does the stock. I could retype all of it but I don't believe in reinventing the wheel. As "Two Man Attack" said better than I...

non related information added.... for those interested
550 cord is the sling we used. The rifles had leather slings in the protectokaddy, but we seldom used them. We used a peice of 550 cord tied it together on one end, looped it through the forwad sling swivel and used it on our wrist to carry the weapons when on patrol. So it was a feild expediant patrol sling. Was a good tool to break up outline aslo. When the rifle was transported that way, the side of our body and leg generally masked the silouette that is so easily recognized.

M40A1 slings. In my experience they were used very little and mostly stayed in the protecto kaddy. We used 550 cord slings. Feild expediant slings that were looped through the front sling swivel and around our wrist. Leather slings were left in the hard cases. I cannot ever remember using one with my m40a1. I may have but not often."

Excellent. Read TwoMans post but just wasnt sure based on his description how long the length of 550 was or how it was used. Truth be told Ive had the MRT sling mounted on my rifle and when shooting off the pack it does nothing but get in the way.

You should post some info regards the 550 "floss" that was used to clear the barrel free float after traveling through the shit. The personal info of how this stuff was actually fielded and maintained is pretty interesting.
