M40a3 Clone Build- Rem 700 barrel contour

Hi all,
Some context...
I am starting a build for a Remington 700. Plan on using this build for precision rifle shooting maybe some hunting in there too. I am trying to decide where to start...i am grabbing inspiration from the m40a3 but am not planning on replicated the rifle completely. I am looking at two rifles right now both chambered in .300 WM. A remington 700 police with a 24 inch barrel and a remington 700 long range with a 26 barrel.
Now for my question...

I have determined that the Remington 700 long rangehas the heavy/varmintbarrel contour but am still unclear on the police. I have seen mixed answers that it is the M24 contour and that it is also the heavy barrel. Prices are all over the place right now. The 700 long range im lookjng at is priced at $750 while the 700 police is priced at an absurd $1300. However, I would rather take the barrel contour that is thicker and more authentic to the build. If they are the sane barrel, I wouldn’t see why I wouldn’t cut down the 26 inch and have it threaded. Also I will be pulling the barreled action out of the stock and slapping it into the Mcmillan when it comes in! Thoughts??

i would skip the remington completely if you are dead set on a 700 style look at bergara

I have a b14 hunter in 300wm that I am looking at just putting a bartlien blank on in m24 contour. The rifle can be had for around 660 which is close to the same as what I have seen trued 700 actions go for.

Police is the same as the varmint/ sendero
M40 is the profile you want for ...an M40 clone.

The M40A3 stock from mcmillan will not be a 'slap in' install.

If you are looking to good results it will need to be properly bedded.

Yes, I was not literally saying it would be a slap in install... Just my phrasing ha.
